  1. Those of you who use atelier art, what age would you recommend starting? I am strongly considering using it with my ds13 and ds15, but I would also like to include my dd5 in the program as well. Is 5 too young? She is at the stick figure drawing stage right now. TIA for your help.
  2. I know what you mean. It's irresistible, isn't it? We will be starting in the middle of year 2 when we start this fall. I kept thinking I would wait, but I just couldn't do it. I can hardly wait to get started. Hope you enjoy it!
  3. I am still doing school with dd5 casually. I did weekly reports up until last week.
  4. Thanks! This looks great. I tagged it so I can go back and look at it later.
  5. I just finished watching Bella. It was a very tender and uplifting movie. I highly recommend it.
  6. There is a lot to look at and consider here! Thank you so much for your help. I am so excited about getting started on this. I have been doing some browsing on the net myself and I think this is going to be a fascinating study.
  7. We are going to study Leonardo da Vinci for art appreciation for the first 2 months of our school year. What are some good resources I can use for this study? I would like some age-appropriate biographies, a good book or two of his artwork, and lots of hands-on suggestions. I need resources for K-level, upper elementary level and middle-school level. Also, any website suggestions you have would be great also. TIA for your help.
  8. outtamyshell, did you get my PM? I just wanted to make sure it went through. mommybee and outtamyshell, I would be glad to have either (or maybe both) of you as study buddies. I could start by the middle to end of this week. Would either of you want to try it out for a book and see how it goes? I feel like it might have been better to have this discussion via PM, but I'm not really sure if my PM option is working correctly. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time and consideration.
  9. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this thread, but I am reading The Well Educated Mind and I would really like to find an online reading partner to go through the reading lists in the book with me and have a regular discussion of them, either through e-mail or IM. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Thanks.
  10. I just wrote a post on my blog about an alternate progression I am planning to use with my dc starting in the upcoming school year. I am really excited about it. In my post I laid out all the thought processes that brought me to this decision. I have also included a new plan for the upcoming school year in the post. I would be honored if the Hive Mind would take a look at it and tell me what you think. Feel free to leave comments on my blog as well, if you like. TIA. P.S. The link to my blog is in my siggy.
  11. I have a ds13 who has a learning disability in language. He is reading on about a 4th grade reading level and he can copy a verse of scripture without much difficulty (he is able to do the copying, but it takes him a while). We have not really attempted dictation. He is still struggling with narration. He can do a 3-4 sentence oral narration from a section of a chapter from SOTW, but he requires several leading questions and assistance in organizing his sentences. This year, he did R&S grammar 2 with minimal to moderate assistance and he is through the majority of the book. I am wondering if FLL and WWE could be a good fit for him. If so, what level would you suggest as an appropriate starting place for him? Thanks in advance for your time.
  12. What are the Ruth Heller books? I don't think I have heard of them before. St Theophan Academy, would you happen to have a link to those books? How have you liked them?
  13. Has anyone had any experience with either of these programs? I'd like to hear from you about the pros and cons of each and which you prefer overall. Or, if you have any ideas that you think would be even better than either of these, I'm all ears.:bigear: TIA for your responses.
  14. We are planning to do the first 2 units of Year 3 in the spring.
  15. I think it's a great idea. I work night shift, so we almost always do afternoon or evening school.
  16. We will be doing year 2 also, but starting in unit 3 and hopefully going on to the end of unit 2 of year 3 by the end of the year. I will have a D, an UG, and a (relaxed) LG (mostly just reading the books and doing the crafts). I am so looking forward to it!
  17. My mother and baby brother went to be with the Lord when I was 10 years old due to a car accident. I was comforted by these words.
  18. I have noticed various references on the forums to the combining of grammar and latin into one subject; in other words, the learning of english grammar through latin. The idea of this intrigues me and I would love to have more information as to how to go about doing this. Does anyone have any information on this subject, or know where I can get this information? Also, if a person used this method, at what age would it be best started, and what should be done prior to starting to prepare for it? TIA.:)
