  1. I am 41. I lost 2 inches this past year. I went from 5'3 and 5'1. So NOT fair. My normal BMI dropped by several pounds and I had to lose the "extra" due to my height loss to avoid the $1200 penalty my DH's insurer slaps on you for not being a healthy BMI.
  2. We like ours. We use it mostly for hot chocolate. Those little swiss miss K cups are only 2 points a piece on weight watchers. They make a great treat! We have had no problems with it.
  3. Looks like an opportunity to me! Perhaps you should start a part-time in home daycare to meet the needs of your community. Once you became a known commodity who provides outstanding care you could transition to full-time.
  4. I have one brother. We are 13.5 years apart in age. I moved out of the house at 18 and he was 4.5. We have a good relationship. We have never had a cross word between us. We do try to call each other at least once a month or so to catch up on what is new. Sometimes it ends up being longer. My parents never interfered.
  5. We have one. My son uses it on his TV in his room. He has a Sony Bravia that is a few years old so it isn't a Smart TV. He uses it for YouTube streaming and for streaming gaming competitions. He says you can use Chromecast and still use the computer. It is a great little $35 investment. He did say sometimes things casted through the chrome Browser to the TV don't always align perfectly, but it is usually just off a little. Not enough to make things unwatchable or anything. Hope that helps!
  6. I was a Pre-K to grade 3 teacher before I became a nurse. My husband is a full-time college professor. I don't think it really influenced our decision to homeschool. We just didn't like public school BS. We both really value our time and freedom and found sending out son to school "confining". Our son was bored to tears too.
  7. There are many nice areas in AZ. I am in the Phoenix area. The summer here is beyond hot. The fall is beyond hot. The winter can be cool or cold. Spring is nice. It is not for me. I need some rain and clouds. You might like it though it ticks most of your boxes. Prescott, Az is in the high desert, much nicer summer climate, but it does snow. Flagstaff would probably be out. They get a lot of snow in the winter. I think Texas might be the best choice out of the three.
  8. I just had a wisdom tooth pulled a few weeks ago and I got a dry socket. OMG!! The PAIN!!!!! Seriously. I have given birth, it was less painful. Don't spit, no straws, no smoking, be very careful when you rinse. There was no reason why I developed a dry socket, just women are more prone. I wish you a speedy recovery!
  9. I usually do books, candy, DS games, gift cards, cologne/body wash, pringles and so forth. When he was small, I would do playdough, those little rc cars, matcbox cars and stuff along those lines.
  10. My 14 year-old heard my husband and I talking about it and he said "I don't even know what a potluck is". My husband remembers his parents going to them when he lived in the midwest as a child, but he doesn't recall going to them. He never went to any as an adult, but he spent 30+ years living in southern CA on the coast. Potlucks were just not part of the culture/lifestyle he lived. When invited to someone's house for a party or dinner, we bring wine. That is pretty standard with people we know. So you are not alone. It would be more uncommon with people we know to have been to them, than not.
  11. Exactly. After the funeral service, we have always gone to a local restaurant which usually does a buffet type set-up. I grew up in the Boston area and lived in Newport Beach, CA for many years. So maybe it has been a geographic thing.
  12. I have never been to one. We don't belong to any groups or clubs. Our Catholic church never does anything like that and all of our family lives on the other side of the country.
  13. Did your doc check your Vit D? I had some wonky thyroid numbers this summer and was diagnosed with thyroiditis. They returned to normal in a few months. It turned out the real cause of my slow weight loss, tiredness, irritability and low libido was low vit D. A little over 3 months on 5,000 units a day of D3 and I feel like a new woman. Really. Like night and day. I would never have thought a low vit D in million years could cause so many issues. If you have not had your vitamin D level checked, I would explore that. A low level really mimics thyroid issues.
  14. My 14 year old has Skyrim. He played for a while, but never really got into it. His computer is in our great room and one of us is always around when he is on the computer, the game never raised eyebrows from us. I would watch some you tube videos of others playing the game. That will give you a good ides of what the game is really like.
  15. Turtle Beach was my son's choice for his Xbox. He doesn't really use the Xbox anymore, but I know the type of headset mattered to him a lot when he was. He also has a pair of Steel Series Siberia V2 for computer gaming/streaming. I have no idea if those can be used on Xbox though. I would go with Turtle Beach. You can't really go wrong with them.
  16. Moving in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009 (twice), 2011 and in 2014 (across country and back, two or three times, I lose track).... has caused me to become a minimalist. I hate packing. I don't mind the moves, but I do mind packing. So I have the bare minimum. I need to know this household can be packed up and moved inside a week or so. The upside is our house is easy to keep clean, very little to cause clutter.
  17. It is always just the 3 of us on holidays. I cook. I do miss my family back east, but it is just too expensive for the 3 of us to fly back east around the holidays. We have our own traditions, but I know my son misses the big family dinners we used to go to at my mom and dad's house.
  18. My biggest regret with my DS is that when he was 5 years old, I did not pull him from his catholic school when his karate teacher (who was also his gym teacher at the school) pulled me aside after karate class and told me he saw my son's teacher bullying him. He was very concerned. The teacher clearly singled my son out for mistreatment. Once this starts, it won't stop. Now that she has been called out for it, she will find other ways to punish your DD. You will regret it if you do not get her out of there. She will remember this. School should be a SAFE place. No adult should ever bully a child and calling a 4 year old a baby for wanting her mother when another child was picking on her... is bullying and frankly really, really bitchy. She is 4, it is only October, she was upset... perfectly normal. I'm 41. Sometimes when bad stuff happens in my life, I want my mother too. I'm sorry for your DD. Her teacher needs a slap.
  19. I would change where I live. I'm working on it. :)
  20. My gallbladder u/s was normal, HIDA scan was normal, labs were normal. They took it out based on symptoms only, I couldn't keep anything down and had severe upper right quadrant pain. It was loaded with stones and sludge and was completely inflamed. The surgeon said it was a good thing they took it when they did.
  21. I do. I use the fake it frugal recipe. Peanut butter supa dog treats are what she calls them. Super easy to make and my dogs love them. http://fakeitfrugal.blogspot.com/2011/06/why-pay-dog-biscuits-peanut-butter-supa.html I keep one bag out and freeze the rest. I have never had a baggie full last more than a week, but they keep a long time in the freezer.
  22. We hosted a flat stanley...he did chores, he went to In N Out burger, he went hiking in the desert/mountains and he spent a nice relaxing evening in the spa when it was all over. It was a lot of fun.
