  1. in ADDITION to... interesting. I never thought of that... but... what to add it to? :)
  2. I have been eyeing this for next year nature/science. Has anyone used this yet? I know it's fairly new, but was hoping that someone could give me a review. Here's a link. It's the top one on that page. http://www.queenhomeschool.com/productpages/Discovering%20Nature%20Series/discoveringnatureseries.htm
  3. We recently switched from Right Start B to Mammoth. It was a good decision. DD needs to spend more time on concepts, then move on to something new, then go back, kwim? She excels in reading, spelling, writing, but math is not her strongest at this point. I kept the manipulatives that came with RS and am using them with Mammoth. DD enjoys the worksheets and thinks it's fun. She really does enjoy Mammoth more and I do too as well. It's not as teach intensive, which is nice when you have little ones running around.:D I am thinking about moving on to Singapore for 2nd grade, but I am still researching.
  4. We are using Queen Homeschool's A Living History of Our World, America's Story, Vol.1. We are enjoying it!
  5. No, anger is not a sin. It's our actions FROM that emotion that could be sinful. Does that make sense? We are created in God's image. That includes the emotions that He has as well, one of them, of course is anger. We can be angry, but we have a choice about our actions and thoughts: will they be full of pride, or will we seek wisdom and act in a way that is beneficial and pleasing to Him?
  6. I'll be honest with you: I am pretty disgusted at the way kids are being raised these days. Around here, kids are so self-absorbed it makes me sick. They are rude to their parents, disrespectful to "elders", and have their noses stuck to their phones. In our home, we are teaching old-fashioned values to our children, especially to our little boy. He is being taught at a very young age to be a gentleman and a protector.
  7. I have an All-Clad set from our wedding (almsot 12 yrs ago). They are in AWESOME shape. Have you considered checking on Craigslist or eBay for used? I wouldn't hesitate buying from Amazon either...
  8. I've only done this a couple of times. She had to write out "I will not be rude." 10x when she was interrupting me while I was on the telephone. She also had to write out "I will be loving to my siblings" when she was having a prideful day. I would post it up on our "school" wall for a few days.
  9. our DD, nearly 7 has a subscription to God's World News. We all enjoy it! She gets the "Early Edition" for 1st/2nd graders. :)
  10. I like coffee hot or iced. Really. I love my coffee. I drink an iced latte everyday brewed here at home. ;)
  11. I was going to post the same thing about my nearly 7yo DD. She doesn't like to narrate back to me, but I do know that she remembers what she reads and what I read aloud to her. I'll be checking out others' input as well. THANKS, OP!:D
  12. 50/50 vinegar and water works great for us. I use that for cleaning up anything, including the floors, windows, bathrooms, and inside the fridge! I do keep conventional sanitizing wipes in the bathroom for quick clean-ups if we are sick or if we have guests here.
  13. :iagree: Blogger. It's VERY easy and fun to play with!
  14. I've made raw butter a few times with the raw cream I purchase and it worked every time. I use my food processor.
  15. I seriously need more ideas. All I have are Lauri puzzles, legos, lincoln logs, and homemade playdoh. I do have some "school" papers for the youngers to work on, but some days, it just doesn't work. From the other moms I've spoken to, chaos is the norm. :glare:
  16. ACK! I STILL need to do this to a few of our books. Thank you for the reminder!
  17. We live in a suburb in NorCal. We got our first set of chicks 2 years ago. They have been WONDERFUL to keep. DH built a coop with a connected chicken run, that is fenced in. We do let them out to roam in our whole backyard, but we do lock them up at night. We have racoons and sometimes even foxes that roam around the neighborhood. It would be a shame if our girls were attacked! The eggs are amazing. So, these chickens are SUPER easy to take care of. If we are leaving for a few days, we just keep them in their coop. If we are gone for more than 3 days, we have a neighbor or family member check in on them. The "sitters" can keep the eggs as "payment".;)
  18. We are using it and the kids enjoy it very much! It is definitely a gentle way of introducing a foreign language to children.
  19. I would look into the GAPS diet. I know I have recommended this before for other ailments, but I have read that this works quite will for a myriad of auto-immune disorders (in addition to other intestinal issues, allergies, candida, etc).:)
  20. I make my own deodorant (coconut oil, baking soda, cornstarch). I've NEVER had problems with burning and sensitivity. :001_smile:
  21. I've brought our HP cartridges to Costco a few times only to have major disappointment. The printer wouldn't recognize the cartridges as being full, etc. I always ended up buying new cartridges. I've never tried any other places tho.
  22. I would look into the G.A.P.S. diet. http://www.dietanddepression.com/GAPS_-_Gut_and_Psychology_Syndrome_Explained.html
  23. Fermented Cod Liver oil and a healthy GUT! During cold/flu season, it's always a good thing to take extra vitamin C and make sure that gut is VERY HEALTHY. Take probiotics or cultured dairy or lacto-fermented condiments.
  24. I hide pastured cow's liver in the ground beef when i make pasta sauce. :tongue_smilie: They devour it all! If they knew, they'd run.
