A few weeks ago I got some ACE workbooks for 2 of my boys. We've been doing a civil war unit and rocks and minerals. To make sure they had the basics at least, I bought the ACE workbooks to go along with this. And guess where they got the most info from? ACE workbooks.
So all my readings, videos, activities were just for me apparently.
So, it got me thinking. Would giving kids simple workbooks for the basics and then letting them decide what to study from there be better? Or maybe give workbooks, then add tons of real books, videos, etc be better than trying to get the most rigorous textbooks or curric?
Or is ACE really that good especially for my boys?
I also bought one for my 14 yo dd who says it's boring and too easy. She admits that the lazy part of her likes it because all she has to do is copy since the questions are written exactly the way it's read BUT her spelling is horrible so maybe that's a good thing for her? Maybe the challenge should come from real books and activities?
I don't have any intentions of changing anything about the way we do math or writing.
But this does have me thinking about science, history, geography.
