  1. We are about to start the logic stage (medieval history - early reniassance), and would like to know what you do for geography. Do you use the Geography coloring book as SWB recommends, or something else? Why or why not?

  3. ... And in such HIGH TECH words! :D :( I was trying to download a lecture from Peace Hill, and the thing went weird on me!
  4. How did you & your kiddies like it? I'm about to have my two DS (11/12)use it. Any thoughts?
  5. This is what I do. First of all, I have a ton of books, mostly purchased at yard sales andthrift stores. So, when switching gears I bring all the related books up from our shelves in the basement, and switch them out with the books we had up here. It keeps the reading interesting and they don't have to look at the same books. They are welcome to go down stairs and look- but we all know that is a lot of work! ;) Also, I have them help me in this process. I only have three kids, so they each get to choose pretty much an entire shelf, if they want to. The other thing is, we keep shelves in their rooms. If they have a series that THEY like, personally, then it goes in their room. Or if they just want to keep certain books in their, it's fine.
  6. The rule in our house is to have their "Daily 5" done, and eat breakfast BEFORE 8am. We start at 8, and no, they can't eat and work. Sounds mean, but it's the truth. If I let them eat during school, it would be a big food fest throughout the day!
  7. Another note: DS10- almost 11- told me the other day he was "Just getting use to our grammar program"........ We've been doing it since September, and for a year before that! Perk up! Soon the "light" will come on! ;)
  8. You're right it does. I'll have to try to find a sample page(s) some where. Kareni, does it help you kids, and how old are they?
  9. Ah, man! ;) I was hoping someone would tell me an easier way! I know that dictionaries have that phonetic symbol chart for spellings in the front, but... REALLY? :glare: I think the other way- process of elimination- is better, although still not great. :001_smile:
  10. EXACTLY! See, people alweays to MEthat to- but, dah, right?! :tongue_smilie:
  11. Hmm. I guess is what I'm trying to say, is is there a way to teach your kids. Hubby and I both know how to look them up, whether we know for sure the correct spelling or not (usually I use Google), but I was thinking that there was an actual skill of how to do this with your kids. No? It's ok. I might be going crazy. It's that time of year. :001_smile:
  12. Is there a way that you can look up a word in the dictionary without knowing the correct spelling? Or shall I say a METHOD? DH and I have different opinions on this. I think there is. I thought I read on here that you can, but can't find it.:bigear:
  13. Hmmm. Yes, we go through and learn ALL vocab- is that what you are talking about or is there more? As for the testing- YEAH! That's what I was thinking too! I figured I would test him until he misses no more than 3 (85%) just to be on the safe side.
  14. How much of the Saxon books are review? Does anyone know? I thought I read on here or somewhere :D that they were all review up until the 40th lesson. We're going to be working though the summer and going streight into the next book (after a 3 week break), so I really don't want them to do more of the same. KWIM?
  15. At the point when you realize no matter how bad you think you are --- you know it's better.
  16. Next week 2 ds will start WTM. Right now, they are finishing up Classical Conversations. DD has (I think) 6 more weeks of CC then she will join us in WTM.
  17. I wonder what SWB's opinion would be of the gammar program in Essentials...
  18. Did foundations for three years at home. Two of which kids did Essentials- this year is one of those years, plus DD is in Challenge A.
  19. LOL, same here. I thought 'holy cow!' They're going to start THAT early???:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
