  1. I think it would be fine. It's quite formal though for the UK, I think people generally dress more casually. Like Laura said you'd want a cardi. There are not many days in the UK warm enough for a sleeveless dresses but it would be fine further south.
  2. I live in an English county with a shire ending and I say shire more like shur but I dont think I even pronounce the r. Having sad that I don't think I'd really notice if someone said it shire, shur or sheer or any variation since there are so many accents here.
  3. The only exercise I find fun is hiking/walking because you get the constant change of scenery and other factors can be included like history, or learning about the natural world that you are passing through. I've always found sport too repetitive for me to want to take it up as a hobby and I'm not competitive when it comes to that kind of thing.
  4. I think the cure for boredom is finding something you have a passion for with some achievable challenge built in and can actually get to do (as in actually afford/have time to do) and then doing it. The bit of challenge keeps the mind busy when you're not engaged in that activity. I'm bored at the moment too. Both my interest area are out of my budget right now. Also I do find my self caring less generally/getting less easily engaged in idea/activities as I get older.
  5. I'm very phone adverse. I found it a problem when I was younger but so much is now done online that most things I needed to do on the phone are achievable other ways. I recently did have to make a phone call and completely screwed up talking in an understandable way and that was embarrassing. I find it quite anxiety inducing so I think it causes problems with thinking clearly. I'm not sure what would have solved it. I'm not great with reading people and communicating face to face so speaking on a phone removes all the feedback you get face to face and it's even worse.
  6. In our bigger rooms we have 25W (100W equivalent) 1750 lumens 6500k and in the smaller rooms we have 20W (60W) equivalent 1530 lumens 6500k. I have also had 150W equivalent bulbs but that's a bit much. From what I've read none of these truly mimic daylight but they're definitely nicer than non full spectrum ones. These aren't dimmable. We still have more yellow bulbs in table lamps so it can be made more cosy in the evening.
  7. I use audible a lot. I've got a 2 credit a month membership which costs £14.99. A single credit a month is £7.99. I might switch to an annual membership though. I do buy extra credits quite often.
  8. I'm agree with Stutterfish. I wouldn't be so quick to think that the British Educational system you are trying to emulate has got it right. So many people in the home ed community here become home educators in those first couple of years of school because it's really hard on little kids. Lots of stress and anxiety and sedentry behaviour for kids who are just not ready for it. It also doesn't seem to improve outcomes overall. Also there's the real thing that you can take weeks trying to get really little kids to pick up skills that could take them far far less time and frustration just a few years later. So you could be doing something far more engaging and age appropriate at 4. Little kids are so naturally inquisitive about the world around them and so physically active it makes sense to concentrate on those aspects at that age and they're not just time killing activities they're beneficial to their development. We've lost that so much in the UK. Small kids in the same small room for 6 hrs a day doesn't seem like something to aspire to. I feel like such academically full on early education here has come about to make parents feel less bad about needing full time childcare for young kids. Its clear it can be done well with more age appropriate content from other countries like Finland but I think there a tendency only see achievement in obvious academic areas.
  9. I have them all over the house because they are a much nicer light and much better if you do arts and crafts. They can seem harsh when brand new. I don't have a brand to recommend but if you search on Amazon you should find a range of what's around at the moment with reviews. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  10. My husband's family history is hard to put together because of all the secrets on both his mum and dad's sides. I think his dad's side is more because they're very private and just don't talk about things even when they're really quite minor. They just seem to feel a lot of shame. The other side I don't have much of a handle on. I can't keep track of the things they do/don't know because there seems to be a lot. They're mostly all dead too which makes it hard to unravel.
  11. Front garden veggies is pretty common here but often houses don't have a front door that points toward the road so the visible garden may actually be on the side of the house. There was a BBC gardening series several years ago about mixing more traditional garden plants and vegetables. Edible landscaping I think they called it. Maybe there's a similar resource around for your climate. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  12. I have a friend who is certain she picked up an std at the hospital after being examined when she had a miscarriage. She didn't get far with getting them to admit that she could have picked it up there. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  13. I'm a redhead and I have noticed that painkillers wear off quickly. I had a lot of pain with dental work as a teen and I still have occasional nightmares about it. it. I haven't had the need to have stronger pain relief than codeine that I really remember so not sure how I deal with the stronger stuff. With antihistamines I get extremely sleepy /drunk with nearly all of them. I've found one that allows me to function but I'd be hesitant to drive. I get a lot of skin rashes typical redhead sensitive skin. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  14. My elderly cat has a chronic rhinitis. Injected Antibiotics seem clear it up temporarily and its always worse in the winter and just seems to go as the weather warms up. It's been going on for many years. He's also had a cold this winter which he took a few weeks to clear completely. It seemed to improve and then return. We haven't found a permanent cure for the rhinitis but he seems to be better now he's an indoor cat through his own choice. Our other cats have never seemed to pick it up but they are very young. 15. I really rarely wear makeup. I don't like the way it feels and tend to react to products which gives me sore eyes. I actually do like makeup though I think it's interesting how it can enhance a face. I just don't really connect it with myself anymore. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  16. Oh after saying nothing will be late I realised one thing will. I'd forgotten about it because it was small/low value. Looks like it's not even been sent. I'll probably cancel it. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  17. Yes we have a twice monthly year round market. It's usually a bit more sparse in late winter/early spring but does still have the basics fruit&veg, bread, meat eggs and jams/chutneys. There's smoked fish sometimes and people selling things like fudge and hummus. Some things come and go though. There was someone selling cheeses and pâté who seems to turn up rather randomly but when they do it's amazing stuff.
  18. I wouldn't underestimate how filling they are. If they're good ones with buttery pastry all that butter and sugar is a big hit to add something else to. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  19. Traditionally they had meat in them but rarely these days. They're mixed dried fruit. Some have alcohol in them. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  20. Everything I ordered from Amazon arrived ok. One thing did keep getting pushed back but it turned up yesterday. I'm waiting on a parcel from another company but I've used them before and they have incredibly vague and late to update tracking but the items do turn up so I'm hoping it will be same as usual. 21. I just have them with a cup of tea too. I wouldn't serve anything with them they're very rich normally. I eat them many times a week this time of year so they're not really a fancy pud in my eyes. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  22. Mr Gum. It's hilarious. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  23. As it happens it actually lasts better than most dairy. People post it as a holiday souvenir. The clotted refers to how it's made because the cream rises up in clots. It's like 60% fat. It's really delicious, more substantial than whipped cream. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  24. No. Clotted cream. It's very thick cream. Unsweetened. It comes in small containers with a thick crust on the top. It's a similar thickness to butter. I come from the land of the cream tea so how you eat your scones is an important and ongoing local issue. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  25. Though I think of all flavours of San Pellegrino cans as lemonade Even if they are orange/lime/raspberry etc. Not quite sure where the line is because I agree Fanta and those others aren't lemonade. It might be like the difference between orange juice and orange juice drink. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
