Why are some homeschoolers so anti-social?
TX Bluebonnet replied to TracyR's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We really are busy. My ds7 is in karate year round which means practice once a week & a tournament every other month. He is in soccer spring & fall. Practice is twice a week, game on Saturday plus occasional camps. Summer means swimming lessons four days a week. During the school year he has Art class Fri. morning. My ds 22 months has Little Gym once a week. We spend our weekends as a family, going to the lake, mini golf or just working around the house. This does not leave a lot of time for school. I would like to meet with someone at the park on occasion. But I don't feel like I can sit and enjoy my visit while making sure my little one doesn't get hurt. -
So, according to Wiki, Sixx currently works with troubled youth. If I were you I would be writing letters to him. Might be a long shot, might not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikki_Sixx With the formation of Sixx:A.M. and the release of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx teamed up with an already existing charity known as the Covenant House and created his own branch called Running Wild in the Night [17]. In addition to partially funding the services the Covenant House provides on its own, Sixx’s division also provides a creative arts and music program, allowing the beneficiaries of this program to discover an answer to their problems that is better than drugs.[18] Because Sixx has been dealt an upper hand along with his success, he has been able to negotiate with people in his industry to provide the program with musical instruments and software [19]. Sixx has arguably prevented thousands of potential drug users and rehabilitated teenage addicts from continuing to dabble in the world of drugs, as the Covenant House helped almost 78,000 youth at risk last year.[20] Sixx didn’t just establish the program. A portion of the profits from Sixx:A.M.’s album The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack is donated to help the Covenant House. Sixx also continues to auction off personal items to fund Running Wild in the Night. As of April 2009, he had raised over $100,000.[21] In addition to monetary contributions, Sixx has made personal and emotional ones. George Lozano, the director of Covenant House California, said that Sixx is "passionate about the cause; he can relate to the youth in our program and they can relate to him. He’s a great role model for these kids

Where did all you newbies come from?
TX Bluebonnet replied to AuntieM's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have been lurking for about a year. I don't remember how I first discovered TWTM forums but I love it here. Thanks to you ladies I have discovered there is so much more to life than Sonlight. I still use SL as a core but now I use FLL, WWE, LFC and a few other things I can't think of right now! I think it is time I start contributing but it is hard because I type one handed while holding a napping (spoiled) one year old.:D -
I would like to know the answer to that question too. Hopefully someone will answer!?

1. What's your name? Shawn 2. How many kids do you have (include ages if you wish) Two boys - 7 years old and 21 months. 3. What curriculum/curricula do you use? How much time do you have? SL Core 1, Veritas AE, Shurley, Saxon, SS Latin, 4. Something interesting about yourself. I'm pretty boring actually. I have two tattoos. Oh boy, that's exciting. 5. What's your favorite season? Fall. I can not deal with summer heat and the rainy cold is so depressing. 6. Favorite subject to teach: Definitely history. 7. What's your HS approach in a nutshell? If I had to guess I would say CM but working toward Classical. 8. Why did you decide to homeschool? I started researching homeschooling when my oldest was diagnosed with severe food allergies. When he started reading at three years old I knew I couldn't send him to school. 9. What country would you want to visit, or have you? I was born in Japan, I lived in Germany for almost three years. Visited Belgium, France and Mexico. I would love to go to Scotland, Italy and Turkey. In that order. -

I think I am going to do that. I have never had as many "door knockers" as I do in this house. -
Do you have alot of pets?
TX Bluebonnet replied to wy_kid_wrangler04's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We had a fish but it died two weeks ago. I hope to keep our home pet free for years to come. If we lived in the country I would love to have donkeys! -
All of our flooring is either wood or tile, leather furniture (I don't see how micro fiber would be any better than regular cloth) no curtains upstairs. Also, make sure you use a good quality air filter if you have central air. We also bought a small Holmes air filter to put in ds's room. Limit the number of stuffed animals and other dust collecting items especially in his bedroom. Wash sheets as often as possible.

They knocked on my door this afternoon and woke the baby just as he was dozing off. I think the guy was taken aback when I nearly ripped the door off the hinges and told him he had better think about it before knocking on my door again. I hate it when people wake up my baby!!! -

Exposure to sports?
TX Bluebonnet replied to Sherry in OH's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My ds age 7 currently plays soccer in the spring & fall. Swimming lessons all summer and karate year round but it is only one night a week with the occasional tournament on Saturday. For two years he played T-ball in the spring but he wasn't crazy about it and he asked to do soccer both spring & fall instead so we agreed. Soccer is cheaper anyway. He took tennis lessons during the summer for two years but the kids there were really bratty imo & I felt swimming was way more important so we dropped tennis. I signed him up for basketball, he went to one practice and declared that he hated it. Usually we make him give everything a chance but he seemed very sure about it so we let him quit. Now you know my ds's sports history.:D Oh, he keeps asking to play football. Not on my watch. -
What FOOD items do you buy from Amazon.com?
TX Bluebonnet replied to RegGuheert's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I buy Cherrybrook Kitchen cookie mix, pancake mix and brownie mix for my ds. He has food allergies and these mixes are milk, egg & nut free.
