  1. I know I'm in the minority, but I can't stand fruit flavored teas (the kind you drink:)). But I LOVE mint flavored. Plantation Mint is my all time favorite!
  2. Thanks everyone! My beloved Old English Sheepdog passed away about a month ago and I miss her terribly. My hubby wanted to wait a year before we got another dog, but my "puppy cravings" were driving him crazy!
  3. Thank you:) My birthday is actually not until the 16th, but these little sweeties were available now.
  4. Well, I've got 2 whole days under my belt and so far.....................I HATE IT!:glare: I'm praying it gets better. Part of the problem is that I don't have the correct grade level materials for math and language yet. I don't know why they wait until the 2nd week of school to do placement evaluations!!! The history and art are pretty good. Social Studies, Music and Science are BORING! OK, rant over. I know it could possibly get better, but I'm making plans to go back to traditional homeschooling next year.
  5. You could also print your own for free from the donnayoung site. She has both vertical and horizontal pages. Here's a link - http://donnayoung.org/penmanship/blank-top-paper.htm
  6. Did you notice on the "customers who viewed this also viewed" list for the banana slicer that the first item was a wood chipper! Some people must have some serious banana issues!!
  7. Our VA does allow different levels for different subjects. I've spoken with my kids' homeroom teacher and she was about to order lower levels of math and language for my kids, but then decided to wait for the evaluations (being done on Sept 4th) to be sure she was ordering the right level. I think if they tried to make me use what they sent, I'd have sent it right back and un-enrolled! It just doesn't make sense to expect all children at a certain age to be at the same level in all subjects.
  8. Our K12 VA starts on Monday. It's our first year with it, but I'm already looking at other "real" homeschooling materials too! I'm feeling stressed and we haven't even started yet! I'm hoping that after they evaluate my kids they get them on the right level. I don't understand why they don't evaluate BEFORE they send out materials! Both my kids are special needs and the stuff they sent us is over their heads. Oh well, I'm pretty sure I'll be back to doing my own thing next year.
  9. Yep, I got my ONE box also! I contacted the seller but haven't heard yet.:glare:
  10. Oh man!! I ordered today and was so excited about my bargain! That stinks!:glare:
  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just used my Amazon reward points and got 12 boxes of crayons for about $2.00!!!! Woo! Hooooooo!!
  12. Yes, that is a lot of boxes. They are books and computers for 2 kids. It was like Christmas when they came! The kids are VERY excited!
  13. Fairfarmhand, I'd love to know what you had to say! My oldest 2 are enrolled in a virtual school (Ohio Virtual Academy, K12) for the first time this upcoming year. We had joined a co-op a few months ago, before deciding on OHVA, and we had to drop out because we're not "real homeschoolers" either.
  14. "OPEN AND GO CURRICULUMS --for a busy stressed financially strapped mom would be things on the computer but with that many kids her best bet would be.....Plus she may not even have access to a computer. K12 only provides one computer for the whole family and from what I heard it is a lot of work. Connections Academy would require computer access as well." K12 must vary state by state because here in OH each child gets their own computer, in fact we just got our two today!:) I have 2 friends that us K12 virtual school and love it. If she has internet access, this might be a good solution. Also, you can contact Book Samaritan for assistance if she doesn't want to go with a virtual school.
  15. How about this! http://www.chicaandjo.com/2009/02/24/recycle-phone-book-into-pen-organizer/
  16. They are beautiful! I would probably intersperse them with more traditional black and white pages.
  17. What about something like this for a spine, then add in your SL books and HSITW activities. I do think TQ is worth getting for the commentary (esp now that you can get it in PDF form) but I'm not sure it's enough as a spine. When they say you don't need a spine, they are suggesting that you just use other books from their lists. Also, if you are talking about the notebooking and timelines from A Journey Through Learning, I think they can also be used independently of TQ. AJTL also makes other, individual lapbook/unit studies for American history. I believe the content of those was written by TQ's Michelle Miller. http://ajourneythroughlearning.com/
  18. I have no experience with these, but am considering them for my ds. http://www.timberdoodle.com/OLLO_Bug_Robotic_Kit_p/077-082.htm
