  1. Definitely decline further access. It's not the norm around here and I can't imagine doing this without the loan approval. The liability alone would cause me to refuse.
  2. I really do try not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but as soon as someone posts the Pearl book in their Resources section, I'm out. I don't even care what else they have to say. Anyone who endorses a book in which 6 month-old babies are hit with plumbing line if they crawl off a blanket is persona non grata. Can't help it, don't want to help it.
  3. DH took the kids to a railway fair all day today. I'm hoping to get a lot of my resources into HST today. I keep thinking of more: Books I bought on Amazon so I can grab ISBNs from there ISBNs with scannable bar codes ISBNs not scannable Pre-ISBN books Library lists at different libraries Netflix etc. Sigh. It will be good to have it in one place.
  4. The people I know IRL who are advocates of early college do not have accelerated kids. They have a general belief that today's children are infantilized and capable of doing more that we give them credit for. It's a general philosophy, not something specific to meeting academic needs.
  5. I don't know, but it would also be fun as a wish list.
  6. I'm finally tackling HST online and I like it! I was too intimidated by all the stories to try the old HST+ so I can't compare.
  7. I'll go with whatever others want, but most of my stuff is not age-related. It's more administrative, getting stuff ordered, research resources, etc.
  8. Awesome! I'm glad you're going to get what you wanted and planned for. (Trying to be vague too.)
  9. I hope the antibiotics work. Glad to hear about the payments!
  10. If they know all this and think you're not busy, they are completely hopeless. And they lack empathy. Give up now and enjoy your life.
  11. I know I don't understand your family's exact dynamics, but I'm going to agree with Cat. These are general principles that apply to any relationship with others, at least in this culture. :grouphug:
  12. Yeah, but nobody can go into the voting booth with them. I wonder how many go along and how many put down different opinions than what is expected?
  13. I agree with the above, but it might also be a good idea to have a doctor check it out. Low thyroid can lead to voice changes. Not to scare you, but a relative of mine discovered his throat cancer when someone he hadn't seen in a while noticed his voice had changed.
  14. I've been meaning to catch the truck and didn't realize I could go to a restaurant!
  15. Yeah, we have a ton of them all over everyday, plus a parking lot where they all come on the weekend and there's a band and tables. Some people are saying the trend here is on the downswing except the taco trucks, which have been here forever and will be here until the universe collapses into a singularity.
  16. Thanks. I missed that somehow for my son but will use it when DD gets there.
  17. Check out Ruth's post on developing reading skills. Her students are accelerated but the tips still apply. PM her too if you can't find her info about how she makes books progressively harder. She has some pattern in which she gets more difficult books and then an easier one, but not as easy as the easiest one on the last loop. Sort of a few steps up and couple of steps back approach. Also find our his current Lexile score and keep finding books with higher scores so you have an idea things are progressing.
  18. I worked on our lit program, added the books I could find to our library account, and finished putting the rest of books in my Amazon cart today, although I haven't pulled the trigger. I checked to make sure the technical aspects of our online class are in order. I'm excited because our OUP Ancient Times Set arrived and I'm going to open it after everyone's done with dinner. The teaching and student guides are still on the way, though.
  19. I'd be waiting for a newbie to post in the living room area for a cupcake recipe, only to be (temporarily) mystified when her post is immediately moved to the rumpus room.
