  1. ooh, jealous! Only, I don't know anywhere NEAR enough German to navigate my way through a game (and it seems to be a complicated one at that!) I only studied it for about 6 months before time (and the languages I'm actually going to use) won out. What game is it? And how in the world did you come across a thing like that? I'd love to find games in French (that didn't have to be shipped across the world that is! :tongue_smilie:)
  2. I chop up the eggs, mix in mayo, mustard, salt and pepper to taste, and throw it all on some slices of bread. :D Very simple.
  3. :bigear: Am I hearing some of you right, that you have subfolders and such with google bookmarks? If so... how?!? Maybe I just haven't looked in the right place... Right now I use google bookmarks, but I don't particularly like it. I have 90 different folders (!!!!) broken up into categories such as Jenna: Science, Jenna: Math, Mommy: Reading Challenges, Mommy: Spanish, Mommy: French, Jenna: French: Programs, Jenna: French: Games, etc.etc.etc.etc. (plus categories like homeschooling blogs, family blogs, craft blogs, graduate schools, scholarships... ahh!) I'd LIKE to be able to create a folder for me and one for Jenna and then separate from there. Oh, and if possible include a link in more than one folder. :D Am I asking too much? I'm going to check out some of the links posted in this thread, maybe someone has already posted what I'm looking for!
  4. I did, and I will. :D I was looking for something that I could drink at night and also give DD if she wanted, which is why I picked up that box (since it was decaffeinated). I need some caffeine... kind of wish green tea had more... :D Not quite as stimulating as the Amp I drink on especially slow mornings, but better than nothing. I'm not sure why I'm even experimenting. I really love my green tea, and I'm not a huge fan of "fruity" flavors.
  5. Ugh. I hate that stinky wet-dog smell. My dog, who is mostly an inside dog, and a lab with fairly short hair, doesn't need to be bathed often, but I swear she smells worse after being bathed than she does before! I also brush my dog, both before and after. Especially when she's shedding. It seems to help if I get all the excess hair off first. If you do have to crate them, can you put a large fluffy towel in with them? That may help *some* with the wetness and resulting smell. I always bathe my dog early in the day for exactly this problem. She sleeps in my bed, she needs to be nice and dry by bedtime!!! :tongue_smilie:
  6. The flow of spam messages currently clogging up our board has me wondering.. If someone says they have reported it, do I need to report it also? I'm pretty sure the reported messages are looked at by moderators and not just taken down automatically after a certain number of reports right? So it seems like second, third, etc. reports would just slow down the moderators.
  7. Hm. Different temperatures of water? I just want something to drink that isn't soda and isn't water! :D Seems like an awful lot of work for that... but I suppose tea worth having is tea worth working for (and take that how you will...) I *do* think I'll experiment with looseleaf tea though. That seems like fun. Guess I need a strainer.... hm. (And... FTR: It seems I don't like chamomile tea. Or chamomile tea with honey. Tomorrow I'll try something else, maybe something minty!)
  8. :bigear: I also have extremely vivid dreams. I often wake up crying, or with my heart racing, or laughing from a dream. My dreams are so real, I also sometimes have trouble remembering if something was a dream or if it actually happened. So.. no advice, but you aren't the only one!
  9. Here is the process: Drag the dog to the tub. Put front paws in the tub. Push large doggie rear end into tub. Turn to grab dog shampoo- chase the dog that has now escaped through the house. Drag her BACK to the tub. Get her wet, soap her up. Hide behind the shower door as she shakes. Give up and climb in the tub with the dog. Soap, rinse, turn to keep dog from shaking. Fail, and get soaked. Climb out of tub, close shower door with dog still in the tub, cover bathroom with towels. Remove toilet paper from the roll because dog will otherwise soak the roll. Grab another towel, let dog out of tub and drape towel QUICKLY over dog, hoping to avoid the spray. Wipe paws and try to soak up excess water. Drag dog into other room, blow dry her. (Surprisingly, she likes it....) Then release her and watch as she flies all over the house, running like a mad-dog for the next 5-10 minutes. Doggie bath day is fun around here. :D
  10. Well, that is two warnings and a reference to TeA in less than five minutes (one through PM), you people are quick! :D I really did know that tea was a code word on this board, but I actually did mean drinkable tea. Guess I should have clarified in my subject (and boy, what a subject to use huh?? Guess I deserve the answers you all are thinking of... :tongue_smilie:)
  11. I love green tea. I drink it both hot and cold, usually a cup a day. I also drink black tea, both hot and cold, but less frequently. At the store the other day I bought two boxes with a variety of teas, and have realized that I have no idea how to prepare them! Obviously I know to steep the bag in hot water, but with my green tea I also add honey and sugar, and just sugar to black tea. Should I add sugar or honey to these teas? Are there other things to add? How do YOU fix tea? (OH! I have two boxes. One is a green tea collection with orange passionfruit and jasmine, lemon ginseng, honey, mint, mixed berry, and pure green tea, and the other is a a caffeine free box for evenings and DD with chamomile, lemon zinger, peppermint, honey vanilla chamomile, and sleepytime-whatever that is!)
  12. Well, we do both. It is inevitable that half of DD's gifts on any given holiday are books. Plus I love to do yard sales and thift stores for books. We also frequent the library. (And by frequent I mean, twice or more a week.. :tongue_smilie:) I haven't seen a difference for DD. She loves books either way. She does love to own books, and often goes back to our bookshelves for books, but enjoys library books just as much. I am a book hoarder. I love books. Especially history books. Especially history books in my particular geographic and thematic areas of interest. (South America, particularly Brazil, and gender/sexuality studies). I have recently begun writing (GASP!) in those books, so... it is nice to own them. :D
  13. Most likely, no. You can't just become independent. I've known people who have really struggled with this (and it actually has kept friends of mine OUT of school!) because until you are 25, financial aid is calculated with your parents information. It doesn't matter if you live on your own, they still request parental information. Unless you are married or have a child. Then you are considered an independent student.
  14. :iagree:I wouldn't want to teach a child to read in both languages at once. I don't ever remember needed to "learn" how to read in my languages, the principles just sort of transfer over and you just need to remember that some letters make different sounds. Once DD is a solid reader in English (as in, once she can read most things on her own comfortably), I'll start her reading in other languages.
  15. We are a language oriented family. I personally study French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and have had some exposure to Latin and German. DD has shown great interest in language learning (and traveling/learning about other cultures). By graduation I hope for her to have 5 languages other than English. (Not all at a fluent level of course) We have been doing French for awhile now. Next year is first grade and here is the plan as it stands now for languages: 1- continue French, start Spanish 2- French and Spanish 3- French, Spanish 4-French, Spanish, Portuguese 5- French, Spanish, Portuguese 6- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese 7- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese 8- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese 9- French Spanish, Latin, Portuguese 10- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, lang. of her choosing 11- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, lang. of her choosing 12- French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, lang. of her choosing Somewhere in there we will hopefully reach a level with French and Spanish (and eventually Portuguese and Latin) that study of the language can shift from a language-learning course to literature and history courses. We will also (hopefully) spend a significant amount of time in Brazil for me to do research, so Portuguese will get a lot of practical use.
  16. :iagree: :lol: I took the belief-o-matic and my results are: 1. Mainline to liberal Christian Protestant. 2. Orthodox Quaker 3. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant 4. Liberal Quaker 5. Unitarian Universalism 6. Eastern Orthodox 7. Roman Catholicism 8. Neo-Pagan 9. Seventh Day Adventist 10. Reform Judaism 11. Hinduism 12. Mahayana Buddism 13. Theravada Buddism And all over 65%. Interesting that my top 4 choices are the same two religions but liberal and conservative. Clearly I have some issues. (FTR: My theological beliefs are conservative, my social beliefs are liberal, so I always end up with seemingly incompatible results like this) And is Unitarian Universalism the belief-o-matics way of telling me I don't fit in anywhere?
  17. Well, this semester DD and I actually only eat dinner together 3 nights a week. I have class until 615 (MW) or 715 (TTh), so she has dinner at the babysitters. But we normally have dinner together, the schedule this semester is just wonky.
  18. I have a rule: No pants (shorts, skirts) with words on the butt. Period. A little decoration on the pockets is okay, but I even draw the line at too much ornamation. And she's just 5! I just have a problem with drawing attention to that part of her body as a child. I do think that teens don't realize how sexually suggestive some of their clothing choices are. I'm a pick-your-battles type of person, but this is one battle I'll take on.
  19. If I *don't* eat in the morning, I just don't get hungry until late, late afternoon. On the days that I forget to eat breakfast, and then forget to bring lunch with me to class, I can easily not eat until dinner. But if I wake up and eat (no matter WHAT I eat, I've tried all sorts of combinations) I'm starving all day and end up eating so. much. So I've always wanted to try this type of diet, but everyone says 6 small meals a day are better than 3 big meals. (Although, I guess not better if I am always sabotaging myself! :tongue_smilie:) I think I'm going to try this. Or one of those diets with a plan all laid out. I can't handle choices and such.
  20. Thank you both. It is a beautiful story to me, but of course, it's mine, so I'm bound to think so! :D My best friend and I have been through so much together. I pray everyday that I will be a match, and if not, one will be found (and soon!)
  21. Well. Yes. and no. I've struggled with mental illness most of my life. I *know* I was a drain at times on my friends, but they were... amazing. Especially one friend in particular. She was the one who found me with an empty bottle of pills, the one who talked to me for HOURS when all I could do was cry and took me to the hospital, the one who wouldn't let me drive when I had self-medicated with whatever I could get quickly and cheaply, the one who kept me grounded when I came up with new *brilliant* schemes that would make everything better (sarcasm there!) All this while she was dealing with her own marriage falling apart and her own (serious) health problems. Drain probably doesn't even begin to describe what I was for her. But still... she stuck in there. Without her, I shudder to think where I would be right now. If I could do that for someone else, I would. Without question. As much of a drain as I was on her back then, our friendship is extremely solid. (And, as a side note, I'm about to be tested to find out if my kidney will be a good transplant for her. :tongue_smilie:She saved my life... I hope that I can save hers) The key words there though were "if I could." I would certainly befriend a person with mental illness, but the friendship would not be allowed to intrude on my family. My daughter would not be negatively affected by it. If this person needed more than I could give them, I would continue to be their friend, but I would have to have some boundaries. (All this changes if it is a current friend who develops mental illness. I guess I'd just be more cautious going into a friendship with someone who had established mental illness, but once I care for someone I will go to extreme lengths for them.)
  22. If you have any questions about this, I'd be glad to help. I'm in history, so all of my papers are written in Turabian. I'm sure you have it all figured out, but just figured I'd put the offer out there in case. Depending on sources, sometimes it can get a little confusing. :tongue_smilie:I am the go-to person in all my courses for help with formatting and citing, and sometimes I still find myself flipping through the official book.
  23. :grouphug: As of Wednesday, I had re-written a paper twice already. Wednesday afternoon I decided I hated it, headed to the library and stocked up on some new sources, came home and worked until 4am only to.... hate it more. :glare: Put it down, went to sleep, woke myself up at 5am and a lightbulb had gone on. :D Worked my pa-tootie off and flew through the pages to get it in at 11 that morning!! So, I agree, (if you have the time!) step away and get your mind thinking of something else. Even if just for a short time. Hope this copy comes out better for you!
  24. I could drive down the morning of, and could swing the 25 dollars for Friday night, so if that happens I'm a more solid yes. For now I voted undecided. :D I'd almost definitely drive up the one day for SWB though.
