  1. My dd got sick about 6 weeks ago w/ a persistant cough, phlegm, fever, malaise; for about a week. She now has the exact same symptoms this week. IDK if it's h1n1 or not, but that's really the only thing going around right now. So, who knows? I just really think they know very little about this illness at this time. Where I work, a very healthy man in his late 40's was hospitalized for a few days w/ it. Dh and I have not gotten it.
  2. Dh uses Egoscue also. Very helpful. Chiro doesn't work for everyone. Did nothing for me. If he's overweight, losing weight will also help. He can alternate hot and cold packs for some relief as well.
  3. I'm 40 and have not found any skin care line to make a huge difference. Now I use natural products as much as possible. I use an aspirin mask once a week or so. (use 6 or so regular aspirins and a tiny amount of water to make a paste. Spread on face and let dry. Do not use if allergic. ) I also use orgainic yogurt w/ honey weekly for moisturizing. There are lots of natural recipes online if you're interested. I also use natural products on my hair. Otherwise, I have read that MaMa lotion is very good. Retinols are the rx way to go.
  4. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. You're right. There are so many different people to thank from different relationships. It is a hard job. My mom and sis couldn't do it. I just want to get it over.
  5. It came w/ a set of thank you cards, and it says "Your kind expression of sympathy is gratefully acknowledged and deeply appreciated by the family of"...I've been putting my mom's name. Should it be my dad's name? I don't know which is right. I thought mom's because she's the widow. I've never had to do this kind of thing before. Does anyone here know? Thanks.
  6. Thanks! We are studying Civil War this year. I agree HP are great! I need to look at Critical Thinking though. We are not covering that at all this year. I also love notebooking and will check those out. Keep any ideas coming!
  7. I'm looking for some extras for dd, age 12. Would appreciate any input of things you've tried and enjoyed. So many times I buy these downloads and when I get them they're not for us. Any topic. Basically anything you think is worth the $$. Thanks! Lisa
  8. Dd started at 11 yo using the lotions, not a razor. She likes to swim alot in the summer. During the other months she rarely does it. I started when I was 12 I think. I think they should start when they are responsible enough to take care of it themselves and it is something they want to do.
  9. First tooth was a gift. From then on it was $5. They 25cents is just not too exciting these days. Inflation ya know.
  10. I just made this last night for our fall picnic. I left out the green peppers as well. It's quite good, and looks much nicer than regualar chicken salad. I'm seving it on croissants.
  11. We don't use them. I write it out on lined paper for her. I'd love to see different options, esp HWT lines.
  12. Some dc do better if taught one concept thoroughly before moving on. We kind of do this, but we also review and cont working on concepts already taught.
  13. No really good advice from me, but I can commiserate w/ you. :grouphug: My dd is 12 and very similar. We just keep at it. Repetition...repetition...repetition...It does sink it, but I have to keep reviewing or she'll lose what she's learned. Dd's math is only at a 4th grade level, and she had an extremely hard time w/ addition/subtraction. We used Times Tales for mult. w/ good results. We are just now doing division in earnest. We're really pushing the math this year, at least 1 hour qd. I hope you get some good advice. I'll be :bigear: too!
  14. I'm in the same boat w/ you. When we first moved here several kids started playing w/ dd, or so I thought. Turns out she was following them around and they took every opportunity to make fun of her or get her upset. I was so happy that she'd found friends! Then I saw how they were treating her. It's very depressing. She's 12 yo and wants friends. She's a nice kid, just quirky. Middle school girls are the worst though! So she has no friends as yet. The only kids consisitently nice to her are her cousins which she only sees in the summer. It sucks!
  15. My dd is 12yo and sounds similar to your ds. We just kept reassuring her and pointing out whatever is a logical rebuttal to her fear. She gets over it, but it takes time. It will periodically return. Using logic helps the most w/ dd.
  16. Any ideas? Everything seems geared more towards younger children. We've already done weather, volcanoes, earthquakes, astronomy. I bought a textbook, but I can see she'll get nothing out of it. I want something that is already laid out for me, where all I have to do is add in RA's. Thanks, Lisa
  17. No he wouldn't, but I LOVE it! I say let's see more kilts on handsome men! :D
  18. Calico...thanks for this post! I have been looking for one! I got one in pink! Yay!
  19. We're going to be starting this next week. The trouble is I don't see any detailed instructions on using all these printables. I found the lesson plans schedule which is 1 page. I'm looking for more details. Are there any to be found? Thanks, Lisa
  20. Nursing is a great career. You can work practically any hours/schedule. The pay is pretty good, and it's very rewarding. It will be hard to do hsing. Nursing school is considered quite tough. You have to pass everything at a certain percentage or you're out of the program. Be prepared to spend a fair amount of time studying. It is well worth it though. I just went back into nursing after an 8 year hiatus. I had no trouble finding a job. I'm 40 yo. Good Luck! BTW, some nursing schools are quite difficult to get into and have long waiting lists. You might want to check into that when making your decision. Also, look into the #of jobs out there for ultrasound tech. I know a girl who just graduated w/ a respiratory tech degree and hasn't found a job yet.
  21. I have 1 child. We typically spend around $200 or so for b-day and $300 or so for Christmas.
