  1. After you line dry them, place them in the dryer for 10 minutes or so to fluff them out a bit.
  2. I work 3 days/week and hs. Do you have someone to stay w/ him while you're at work? If so, hs on nights and weekends. I work and leave independent work for dd to do while I'm gone. If she doesn't understand something, she leaves it til I can help her. It can be done, but it requires good organization and teamwork. Good luck.
  3. Thanks for the review Ramona! I am definately going to look into this!
  4. I was just looking at this website today. I work PT and am seriously considering using this program to cut down on organizing/planning time. I hope someone responds!
  5. Also a nurse, and that was completely inappropriate. Hugs to you and your dd.
  6. I think I found a good place reasonably close by. I'm going to check it out after we get back from vacation. I'm going to start her w/ private lessons until she can do group. Thanks so much for the input!
  7. Thank you both so much! I asked her about it and she would like to do it. Now, to find the right place! I'm going to check into it tomorrow! Lisa
  8. Has anyone here had their child take horseback riding lessons for balance? I am looking for things for my dd (12yo) to do this summer. This might be a good one. Any input? Thanks, Lisa
  9. I tried this as well. Our school system does not diagnose. They did some testing that told me what I already know. Basically useless. They did not give me any new ideas or info. If I want a diagnosis I need to pay$600 to a psychiatrist. I may do it. I'm just not ready to yet.
  10. Thanks! I'm going to check it out!
  11. Was this covered by your medical insurance? How did you get them to pay? Did you just go and submit the bill? Do tell!:)
  12. Nursing pay varies greatly. One of my friends just went to home health. She is an LPN and got $18/hour + mileage. When she is finished c/ her patients, she can go home and just be on call. I would estimate an RN to get $23-24/hour range. THis is in VA. Where we live LTC pays the most.
  13. My 12 almost 13yo dd is ASish. I am looking into a summer skills program this summer. It is 8-11:30, M-Th, 6 weeks and costs $1400. It's pricey to me, so I'm going to check out the school in a couple of weeks. My dd can amuse herself endlessly, so I don't have your problem per se. One thing I've found, and lots of aspie moms have found is that swimming is wonderful for aspie's. You might want to buy a summer pass to your community pool. It burns up energy and is social and outdoors. I also think the structured AM and free afternoons is a good idea. Taking away my dd's favorite items (mp3 and computer) get her to shape up pretty quick. Also, giving her extra chores to earn $$ really motivates her. You may want to talk to him about that. Good Luck! Lisa
  14. We just keep drilling using printable worksheets. It was twice a day. Now it's only homework.
  15. I've had my dd tutored. It was about $30/hour in a rural setting. Here in VA there are many tutoring centers and a LD school that tutors. (I would love to send dd there, but it's $10,000) Anyway, make sure there's a market before spending that kind of money. Also, make sure it will be do-able, ie, you'll have a nice, quiet place to do it. I'd also make sure you live in a good area as most parents who can afford tutoring will not take their child somewhere they are not comfortable. Good luck!
  16. Nurses will still be in demand. You have a lot of baby boomers who will soon/already do need medical care, ie nursing home/assisted living/increased hospital stays ect. However, I agree that nurses will probably be given more work for the same or less $$. Insurance co's will find ways to reimburse less which means more patients for each nurse. This means more responsibility for you. People will wait longer to be seen. Many docs may quit or retire. Nursing is hard work. Don't go into for the money. Go into it only if you love it. I just got home from my 3-11 shift. It's 1:30am. That tells you how my night went! Good luck!
  17. Not officially, they (ps) don't test for dyslexia. I would say she is dyslexic to a degree. She can read near grade level, but skips words or loses her place. She writes numbers backwards once in a while as well.
  18. I have a dd c/ Asp.Syn. but she does not have violent tantrums. I am a nurse, however, and the above poster is correct. There are several meds that can help you. Ask your PCP for a recommendation for a pediatric neurologist or a psychiatrist. There is help.
  19. What did you use to help your dc word problems and general broad thinking problem solving techniques? Dd gets frustrated easily and just gives up. She doesn't like to work hard or think something through. Anyone else w/ a child like this? Her applied problems scores were negligible and her passage comprehension @ 6th grade level were very limited. I should note that she doesn't test well and, like I mentioned, will not work hard and will just give up if she perceives it as HARD. Thanks for any and all help! :001_smile:
  20. We recently moved and hired 2 guys to help us for 3 hours. The 3 hours cost $200 and I gave them $20 each. They were appreciative. I don't think everyone tips. Now they did a good job. If they hadn't, I would not have tipped. Moving is hard work. If they do well, give them a tip!
  21. I still think mandatory seatbelt laws are unconstitutional. It was very creative though.
  22. "The Screwtape Letters". I am considering "The Everlasting Man" or something by George MacDonald. Any input appreciated. Nothing too deep, we're buying a house and moving at the end of the month. I also work 3 days/week. Thanks, Lisa
  23. My 12yo dd loves abstract art. I know nothing about art. Any ideas on teaching/encouraging her in it? She needs more direction, I think. Her abstracts are very simplistic. TY! Farmgirl
