  1. The Future of Food and what other documentary? I know that 2 were discussed here and I am ready to watch them with a disbelieving friend. TIA! I searched but only found one thread with about 7 posts.
  2. ME: lack of money and the state of our food and water. MOM: money and the safety of her grown kids. MY DD: not much.
  3. I have to wonder why it matters what they think. The proof is in the pudding and anyone who knows us can clearly see that my daughter is progressing and intelligent due to (or in spite of) the way we choose to educate. How they choose to see it is up to them.
  4. It's also sad when you think of all the rushed aspects of a kid's day when they have to leave early and be gone all day! But this is truly genius. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq9Lc7InIMY&feature=related
  5. Stress is worse than bad food. What you eat at a friend's house isn't bad because they cooked it with love and shared it with you. All "bad" effects are negated when you eat with friends. It's true. Same as prayer, meditation, or thankfulness over food. It changes the force. In a study of cholesterol and rabbits it was discovered that the reason one group of them did not have high cholesterol was because the man who fed them was petting them!!!! They were all the "same" genetically - they all ate the same food - everything was "controlled" and they should have all had raised levels of bad cholesterol. But when the guy fed his group - he would pet them. So - if you are eating the "bad" food and thinking about it - it will make you sick. Focus instead on the company and the fact that you are loved enough that even in this economy your friends are willing to feed you and your kids!!!! Take a chelated mineral pill when you get home and call it a day! Chelated minerals bind to toxic metals and other poisons and help them leave the body.
  6. I guess I'd have to be there to see his face and hear his tone. But - it kind of *is* non-schooling. Since you're not in a brick building for 8 hours a day. So I can see where he would think that way. Although I personally call it "doing school" when someone calls and asks what I am doing. I can just see where he would use non-school because if you think of school as a brick building - than doing it elsewhere is "non-school." I don't think, "You do whatever you like" is necessarily a comment to be offended with because he could have meant that you like to learn under a tree - you get to go sit outside, or you like the smell and sounds of a coffee house - you get to go sit there and learn at the coffee house. He might of meant it in the context (once again) of place. Brick and mortar school vs coffee house. Did he see you with your books? Also - once again, would have had to hear his intonation - but "You do whatever you like" could also be said as permission to be different. As in - You do whatever you like because the world is different for all of us, and so you go out there and do what you like because it's a free country for the most part, and you can do whatever you like...... whether it be learning in a building or under a tree. When I read what you wrote - I pictured some old man who remembered a teacher taking them outside to read and so he possibly has a good memory of learning outside the normal realm of a classroom. And I also had my own intonation going on with that last comment...and it was more like "you go girl!"
  7. I just got hired at an agency and will be PRN. What are the going rates? I will not be compensated for mileage. Thanks in advance! I want to be prepared when I discuss this with them. Oh....and I am an RN.
  8. There really isn't except for the fact that they are working for RELATIVES. So from my perspective - no difference. But from their perspective - HUGE difference. As Mungo pointed out - if you're afraid of your employer vs. employer is family = big difference to you the worker!!!!!!!!
  9. Well HERE I have personally known very nice illegal immigrants who work for their legal cousins. It's a family business. No threat of being turned in. So - VERY different circumstances of which I speak and you are accustomed to over there on your island. These folks aren't feeling threatened by their cousins and they send a huge chunk of their money back home.
  10. I think you missing the ENTIRE POINT of my original statement. But I think you do that A LOT with what I say. ;-) My original point was that illegal aliens are taking jobs away from US Citizens because they can afford to work for so little. It just so happens that where I live - the illegals are Mexicans. I hold nothing against legal Mexican residents of the U.S. Maybe where you live the illegal aliens come from another place.
  11. I suppose then that if you have no money you should let your kid go deaf over the ear infection? If you have an emergency - take care of it however you must.
  12. I'm not quite sure I get your point here. We have PLENTY of illegal Mexicans working for other Mexicans who are legal. So your point is?
  13. And I do believe it was Abraham Lincoln himself who was a racist. "I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior." Like I said earlier - it was ultimately ALL ABOUT MONEY. The North wanted what the South had.
