  1. I did j til marriage and now use an extra pillow with the occasional stuffie loaned from a child.
  2. We are going to be doing a combination of Campfire Curriculum 50 states units (two units out with more to come) and Trial guide to US geography (more so for the mapping aspect and reinforcement of what we learn in Campfire). Campfire units are similar to Notgrass’s 50 States, just a different style.
  3. Or sure about how it will be but driving in the opposite of direction this afternoon and the traffic going to totality was terrible. Bumper to bumper on the highway not moving. I personally wouldn’t but I don’t like peopling
  4. The mix tile/picture has a magnet permanently adhered to it. There is another magnet you put on the wall. The picture then can hang on the wall via the magnet. The magnet you put on the wall can be taken off without damage.
  5. I have moved them. The tiles themselves have magnets on the back and are easily removed. The magnet that gets adhered to the wall- I have removed them without damage to the wall, but none that have been long terms (thinking a year plus). I have found them easier to remove than something like the 3M stickies which have damaged my wall. I think the adhesive and not as strong as the tiles are fairly light so there isn’t the need to hold a heavy weight. I have been happy with the overall quality and appearance of the tiles.
  6. For the walls we have a mixture of frames and mix tiles (ones I change more often). I do have some throughout the house too on tables as such but I love photography and do it as a hobby so lots of pictures!
  7. We’ve used Jacob’s algebra and preview the geometry already. I want videos to reinforce the ideas. Though I can teach it, it’s a matter of dividing my time among all the kids and giving DS more independence. We’ve found it best that he watch a video teacher, does the work and then we go over any problems he didn’t understand or missed. My hope this will set up a good habit for him as he moves on to higher learning and DE classes.
  8. I don’t realize DO used Jacob’s geometry and will need to look into it. Thanks
  9. I was looking for videos to compliment Jacob’s Geometry. Dr Callahan came up in my search. Has anyone used them and have an opinion on them? A different suggestion to go along with the text?
  10. If there is something there you do really like they have the option to buy and then pick up in store. Kind of like the grocery pick up but you go inside to get it. That way you know they do have it before driving out there. We’ve used this option many times as we are far from the local ones too.
  11. So sad for their family. Sending condolences. We had really enjoyed the Quark chronicles and had fun memories of reading those together.
  12. I don’t know real stats but just looking at the homeschooling community growth in the area, many (not all) are people starting as prek and the younger grades. So I think for us it may be something we’ll see more evidence of later on. Also we have school choice here. Our community school has seen less students enrolled because of that (as they are able to follow students through the districts). There has also been a rise in private school enrollment. I have kids in the local school and homeschool some so I’ve seen how this has played out a bit. They are still very welcoming to homeschoolers. ODs will be taking the psats and district act this fall there with no issue. But they’ve had to cut some programs because of funding— much of what has had to do with rising costs, paper costs being one of them.
  13. I feel like a lot of the wait issues came with doctors needing to align with larger hospital units (with liability and insurance costs). They lost the overall day in how their practices are run, number of patients, time with patients, etc. For the most part we’ve stayed with private practices and have been able to get in same day and call directly to the offices. Its sad that the doctors aren’t able to give the care to their patients that they want.

I’m also wondering if there was something else unknown to you going on that is not typical. Was one of the kids having a rough time and it was just best to get out and do hand sanitizer. I don’t judge based on a brief one time experience
  15. I think algebra 1 and geometry along with logic and consumer math should be required for all students. Anything above should be choice. IMO those classes would be the most beneficial in the future regardless of job choice.
  16. I also don’t find it odd for the parents to be involved. There have been many times the boys will arrange a hang out time, ok it with me and then I find out later the friends mom had no idea. So I always touch base with parents. Especially if it’s something like with this parent who seems to be arranging someone to watch her kid for a bit. I’m not good at confrontation so I’d probably passively by saying it doesn’t work for us. If I were more straight forward I’d as PP said and say my son doesn’t connect or find common ground.
  17. When looking at churches I specifically wanted to see: Who is in staff- their education and short biography ministries the church is involved ib children's ministry- that is involved and the most important part what curriculum is being used. current Bible studies being done outside of Sunday morning Small groups, classes and other events being offered- description where needed what a service looks like including a general begin and end time Church belief statement and doctrine church affiliation things kept up to date on calendar contact information easy to find location- we were on vacation over Christmas and it was hard to find an actual address of churches we were considering going to. sermons online both current and past
  18. I’ve learned I have had to let go of my vision and preferences in seasons to make sure we are all being taken care of. My oldest is doing all online this year because that’s what he needs. It isn’t what I had wanted. My middle guy does more textbooks than I’d ever choose but he’s thriving. And my youngest loves TGTB and I don’t- but I’m using it because it works. So all of my living books are tucked away in storage in hopes we’ll use them again! Just saying you’re not alone and adjusting to meet needs isn’t a bad thing!
  19. I understand where you are coming from. Are you able to outsource a subject or two to online sources? I’ve found that to be a good balance for me when I’m feeling stretched. For me having one less thing to teach and grade is beneficial for all of us.
  20. I think like with any other curriculum it comes down to the child, learning style, goals and so on. there have been bits and pieces of MB that have worked really well for us, others were major fails and then others just ok. I’m in the party that if it works for your child then it’s good. In my own family each child uses what works best for them (Within reason). For a season one of mine used MB math and yes also went through more than two levels one year. But it worked well. IMO I need to be cautious since I feel they are good at advertising a curriculum but it doesn’t always meet my expectations. That would be their Engineering curriculum. I loved the idea, even the materials were great but implementation of it was terrible.
  21. We have this problem too….and have a covered porch. So frustrating
  22. This has happened periodically to me in the past. Sometimes the item is just really out of stock. Other times it has been cause they no longer carry it but then also won’t say that. I usually get the items available but that comes later- usually just a few days. Others it has been out of stock for months and then randomly comes back into stock
  23. Not sure what they will do but returns have been taking much longer than usual lately. One of mine I was worried got lost took almost three weeks. Also there was a package they said was damaged and didn’t send me nor give me a refund. After two weeks I reached out for the refund and they gave it to me and also said the tracking showed it was still sitting in their warehouse to be returned which is why the refund wasn’t processed. just to say that there may be hope they will find your item and send it back to you if that’s what you’re hoping for!
  24. Agree, it has been difficult. Stored around here don’t carry most of them and I have to pay exorbitant prices online for them now. Walmart hasn’t carried my All Free and Clear for months (which we need for allergy reasons) and target never carried it.
