  1. There is also a piercing called a Prince Albert that I found by accident while looking him up on Wiki. Ewww! Maybe the piercing people need to create their own encyclopedia. I am glad to hear there are alternatives. I'll have to check those out.
  2. 1. I have wondered why I don't get "confronted" about homeschooling anymore and wished I did so I could snake some of these snappy comments. 2. I tried to think about how I remain calm and patient when talking to my kids. I then realized I don't; I'm not qualified to give advice about it. 3. Made a mental note to have a Mike's soon. And try this Chocovine thing. 4. Thought about why homeschoolers get obsessed with convincing others how old the Earth is. Wondered if that question will come up on the entrance exam into heaven. Thought about other questions that will likely be on the exam that I won't know. Thought more about this Chocovine thing.
  3. My editions are older and I have noticed the grainy black and whites are not ideal, but they seem to have some sort of texturized leaf (?) over the top of the male parts in the sculpture book. There are booKs shown in sculpture. I haven't been through the art book yet, but I can check it out. Although, funny, I was pulling up better images on the iPad for us to look at, and attempted to cover the "parts" when I turned it away from me to show them. Well, the image completely shifted and the kids got quite a laugh from me trying to hide what was not being hidden at all!:tongue_smilie:
  4. We have NOT liked the HP or the Canon. We recently got the Lexmark Pro900 and it's working well so far. We've not had it a year yet, but (fingers crossed) I am hopeful. It's fast, quiet, and the black ink is only $4.99 a cartridge! The three colors are about $20 a piece, but they last a while. Good luck! I HATE spending money on printers and having them fritz out!
  5. :grouphug: I would second the suggestion to get your hormone and vitamin levels checked. I was diagnosed with only slightly low b-12 and was experiencing panic attacks, anxiety and tingling sensations along with slight depression. Even if nothing is low, making sure you get your b-12, vitamin d, omega oils and exercise can really help. I really hope you get through this pain issue too. I've never experienced this, but I've heard some great chiropractor stories from people who were skeptical but desperate. Sending healing thoughts your way.
  6. I am so encouraged by this response. Since he is only looking for answers in Genensis, he must have missed the sections on taming your tongue, loving your neighbor, being gracious, etc.
  7. Homemade waffles freeze well. I put ground flax seed, walnuts, multigrain flour, coconut oil, and mini chocolate chips in mine. I also make a big batch of quinoa, sometimes with steel-cut oatmeal mixed in, and keep it in the fridge. I like to scoop some hot or cold into a bowl with milk, dried cherries, almonds, cinnamon, sliced apples and brown sugar. Yummmm!
  8. can they co-exist?" I think I need to quit procrastinating and go to bed!!:D
  9. We left because we hit a wall with fractions on a conceptual level. My dd had a real dread of math and it just wasn't clicking anymore. I went with Math Mammoth just supplementally at first, along with Life of Fred. LOF was a bust, but I started to see some improvements with Math Mammoth. To be fair, I could attribute some of the eventual success to all the repeated presentations within the different curricula we tried. However, I ended up switching and sticking with MM for all my kids because of the clear explanations and varied conceptual angles it uses to teach.
  10. This was my dd at that age. This sounds like a drastic solution, but take a weekend and go somewhere if you can. I was in a situation where I had a family emergency and went out of town for three days. I was stunned that my dh had so little trouble with her. Once I got back she had adjusted to the point that it was easier to get her down without it. She's fourteen now and perfectly fine;-). Good luck, and don't worry!
  11. I read it. I don't remember anything traumatizing. What is it I missed? I liked it...
  12. Math Mammoth Writing With Ease MCT grammar Nora Gaydos Reading Homeschooling 3 dc for 8yrs
  13. My dd is having success with Foerster's Algebra along with the Math Without Borders DVD. I was worried about the text being too challenging, since it is often recommended for those with advanced students. (She is NOT a math whiz!) We have found the teaching in the DVD's to be thorough enough to make the lessons very clear. I am happy with our choice, and she is too.
  14. I recommend a diamond microdermabrasion treatment. It's soooo gentle and effective. It's not harsh at all. It feels like a cat licking your face, and there is no downtime with redness or irritation like some peels or other types of microderm treatments. It's not the kind with the chemical crystals, this one uses a diamond tipped head. I feel 10 years younger. Wish I could get one more often!
  15. I recently saw something at our local book fair/conference that intrigued me. I am probably not going to fit it in this year, but maybe someone here can try it and give us all a review:D. It's called Life With Bills.http://www.lwb2.com/learn/
  16. I had a friend in college from "Saiyndi Reedj, Nowth Cerahlahnuh." I think her name was "Jyehnahfuh." I grew up in NC and still couldn't understand her a lot of the time. I have noticed such a great diversity in different regional southern accents over the years I can usually tell which part of the south someone is from. I think it's fun to guess! There is an actor on one show I started watching recently who is doing a pretty good Texas accent, but into the second show I was pretty sure he was from Canada. I looked it up on Wiki and sure enough, he is from B.C.:D
  17. Windows to the World/Grammar/IEW combo class Apologia Physical Science class Latin Alive class Kinetic Pre-Algebra MCT variety Elements and Carbon Chemistry TOG yr 2 co-op Megawords WWE Art of Argument Remedia outlining Logic workbook German? Mango? This seems like a lot in writing/grammar and science, but it is spread over the whole year and every subject every week. We are doing the filing system this year and it really helps to be able to tuck thing in the folder and know that we will eventually get to them.
  18. Thanks for all the advice! I am really close to taking the plunge again. I saw a singer at church this morning with the exact look I want. I wish I could have taken her picture without looking extremely weird and unspiritual. (Yes, I considered doing this!) If I get one I'll be sure and post before and after pics.....if it doesn't turn out horrible. Maybe then the after pic will be with a hat...or a bag!
  19. Don't laugh at me, but I am so tired of my fine flat hair! I have a full face too, so it really doesn't flatter me to have thin fine hair stuck to my head. I have tried the volumizing techniques with styling product and blowing out. It's so much work! And the worst part is, it just goes back to flat in an hour! I was so much happier in the "big" hair days when I got my regular perms. I never achieved true "big" hair, but there was volume and texture and substance there. I just want perms to come back. I envy all of you with natural curl! Would I be crazy to go back to perming now?!
  20. You might get some responders on the High School board. There is a lot of discussion about this over there.
  21. I second the Lauri puzzles. I got a number-peg puzzle from MFW a few years ago. I think that one was a Lauri too.
  22. My TOG Yr 2 has SOTW scheduled in the alternate reading. That's what I was going to use.
