  1. When we did it at CC last year, I think we pasted each piece on newsprint... as went on. (some each week) :-)
  2. I'm not sure about the laminators themselves... and good prices. BUT for lamination supplies.... oregonlam.com has great prices, good customer service and a flat shipping charge of $5.95.
  3. Is it possible to rent out part of the house, so that they can have some help? My husband and I have a house that I've always thought, "If times get tough enough.... we could maybe rent out a part." Of course, this wouldn't count as income for the loan... just some $$$ to help get there. Of course, it depends on the laws where they live...
  4. Annie's (or Kraft's) instant Mac and Cheese. :-) There are some really good instant mash potatoes that I buy in small packages at Safeways.... (They are in a blue box)
  5. Seems like if it was the RA then the College should be taking responsibility. The RA had a key to the room.... etc... and they are hired to rule over the dorm on the college's behalf.
  6. I wouldn't eat it... but I'd give it to my pup and he would like it and be fine:-)
  7. I think you could use it "lightly". It's the rules and spelling list, after you learn the phonograms... that I like. (And how to introduce the spelling words... Instead of just "testing") Of course, you can spend an enormous amount of time on it... but.... if your child is good at spelling and reading.... then there are SO many other things to spend time on... :-)
  8. :grouphug: Sorry to hear that. Prayers for you and your husband. Perhaps God will place... or help you seek some wise mentors. Marriage is like a life long job, hard work, and even harder to be happy with. At least for those I know.:grouphug:
  9. How long have you been using these?? I need some new cookware, I'll either get a stainless steel set or something like this:-)
  10. With manuscript, we'd do a start at "2 o'clock" and go left.... come back up to 2 from the right and then down. I actually just purchased Startwrite yesterday so I can do copy work for my son. We're doing Modern Cursive.... and I can print the lines very lightly and he says them as he's writing them. I actually print out the arrows so he goes the correct way. You can do a sample of Startwrite for free:-) Carrie
  11. Wool Long Johns with the shirt and pants set:-) should help... It helps regulate the temperature and you can get really nice feeling... thing wool unders for your whole body. Wool can be soft if it's processed correctly... And then nice thick wool socks with slippers:-)
  12. I put $300-$500 because that's what curriculum costs for us. Then we do Classical Conversations and so that's an extra $800 or so for my daughter and $400 or so for my son. Next year we'll be doing Challenge A which will be about $1250 for my daughter and $400 again for my son. So... after books and such next year, I expect to spend about $2250. Good to put it down, so I can start allotting the $$$.
  13. Hey there, I have a history timeline notebook for Creation to Modern. Well, I don't know what Information I figured we'd put in there. I'd like to put important dates from History in there.... Scientific Discoveries... Musicians that were born/famous during times... Who loves their system... I have a printer, I have a bit of $$ for it.... Ideas... :-)
  14. Time for a long weekend away! It'll help you make it through the next few years. And... my 6.5 year old still sleeps next to me... on the "emergency spot" I made for him. We have a Queen sized bed, so when we moved the crib that was rammed up to our bed... and made a bed for him in the other room... I put my hope chest... up to my bed's edge, and told my little one that he could use it to come snuggle with us after he woke up in the mornings... He looked around one night when I said something about his room (in the other room!!) and he looked around our room and said, "This is my room, too, Mama!!" Way to go.... Think he'll wanna move out before College?? (out of our room??)
  15. Ok... so I voted regular # 2s... but I actually JUST started making my 6.5 yr old write, and I put one of the finger grips on it. It has two pretty same sized spots and then 1 larger one. It demands that he holds his fingers properly, which is what he needed... he had a serious weird grip on the pencil. :-)
  16. I don't think that the ones with little stickies "taping" them down are reused... don't they purchase them that way??
  17. I just saw something advertised on tv... that you take with you for "sheets" from home. I really think that taking something to put the comforter and blanket inside would be more sanitary.. (Kinda like a huge duvet cover) I hate to think of the nasty germs...
  18. You can do Animals for the hood/head part... that looks really cool:-) I love those, you can always do a wash cloth to match. Consider making it big enough to use for a 3-4 year old... and it'll be a favorite one for years:-)
  19. Latin Centered Curriculum... Anyone doing 2nd grade with their LAST child, and might be thinking of selling each year? I'm doing LCC with my first grader and was thinking it'd be great to go a year behind someone... and just purchase their used books. Of course, this might be too much trouble... just an idea. Carrie:-) (My son is 1st grade.... so... I won't need the books till Sept...)
  20. You can use Startright? to help you make copy work with the numbers and arrows that show the direction to write. They have a free test to see if you like the program enough to purchase it:-) Carrie
  21. I've just heard that writing chants/vocabulary 3 times each week.... is a good plan... (Along with the other things I see that you're planning:-) Not sure if that's too much for a 6 year old... but at 8 I think it would work. :-)
  22. My daughter is 11 and I finally accepted the fact that I need to sit with her while she does all her work. I actually go through all her math with her (Btwn 1 & 2 hrs a day) I read her other information with her... I do have her listen to her history cd and then try to go through the comprehension questions with her. I have to keep on her about completing her writing. I have to remember that regardless of how much time it takes use to get through the work... getting through is my job. And, her having Socratic Discussion would be hard, with her talking with herself. Of course, that's why I want some "group" experience for her. I expect that in 7th-12th I'll be spending a few hours each day with her. I'm hoping to attend class with her at our local Classical Conversations group. I'm sure she'll be more independent there, but I still expect to sit through her Math DVDs and Latin class. Yes, she's right, One reason I homeschool is to become more educated myself! One day, when my youngest is somewhere around Junior High/High School, I want to be involved with starting a Classical School in our area. :-)
  23. You can insist/offer (whatever) that she wear a body shirt... (like a leotard with snaps at the cr+tch) or do something like.... http://www.thebellyhugger.com/pages/Sizeinfo.php My step daughter that lives with us half time... has this situation too... http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails?item=2772 :-)
