  1. http://ldsscripturerock.com/downloads/downloads.html I have to say... this is the best I've ever heard!! Now, I'm not LDS, but I LOVE his music... and I just loaded the songs I like. The YouTube above is kinda how the whole things sounds... Their Old Testament and New Testament... is just straight from the Bible (KJV) and I just take out any LDS scriptures they include. Really... it was very easy to do. So.. no worries about translations:-) Very good:-) :-)
  2. Sinus infections don't seem the same with littles as adults. General practitioners can miss them... ask me how I know:-) I recommend going to an Eye Nose and Throat specialist. If you do antibiotics for it... it takes about 3 weeks... :-) Good Luck!!
  3. How bout... I know it's at least $10 an hour.... hmmmm... I don't really figure it out exactly. Gosh, Maybe I should ask you to buy lunch next time :-)
  4. You can get a cheap Classical Conversations cd. I'd suggest whatever you want most for history. Math is the same for all cds... You do skip counting from the start to 12 or 15?? and then also cubes, squares and some other math facts. (Besides, Science, English, and more...) You can just purchase what you want... take off what you "need" and then put it on a cd... MP3player....etc.. :-) (You can probably pick up a cd for maybe $10-$15??) Our 4 and 5 year olds... I think all of them probably... were singing all the math skip counting last year... (And of course the older kids... too... very catchy in my opinion....)
  5. Little kids are ... well... little. I'd say... Get out the manipulatives and just play along with where the Singapore is going. I LOVE Singapore. But, I've decided that Math is the most important subject for me to cover with my daughter. We spend an hour a day. (She's 11) and my son?? (He's 6) Well, we spend maybe 20 minutes... He is good at Math... But, I only spend maybe 5 minutes reading through the lesson. For us, the reading is the hardest part. The reading is above where he is in Math.. I like reading Math books with him, although I haven't done this as much as I should... :-)
  6. So, we were at the store, and he wanted apples. Great... Math moment, right? "Hey Buddy, look... it's $1.18 a lb. How many ounces do you think is in a lb? Wow.. let's weigh it... 2 lbs. You know what? 1 lb is 16 ounces. We have 2 lbs.... how many ounces is this?" *This scale didn't have the ounces where you can see them... Anyway, he looks away for a couple of seconds... and comes back with *32*! I said... "ok, wow... that's right!! How did you know?" (We haven't skip counted 16's) He said... well.. you said.. 16 and I know that that's a "10" a "5" and a "1" so I knew I needed two of everything. Wow... I think Singapore is a good match for his 6 year old brain! :-)
  7. You could always do a WTM thing and take a SOTW book for him :-)
  8. I bought the "Cursive First" (and laminated them) and use these for my son and then have the WRTR ones that I got from the Goodwill :-)
  9. Have no idea! We just started a Latin course that is 30 weeks a year, for 2 hrs a week. The lady has taught for years.... and it's actually less than most courses I've checked. She may not be covering enough for some, but it's perfect for us. In one year, they'll get from Henle Unit 1- Unit 5. (5 Units). I can't imagine the Teacher being that rude, and I think that as a Teacher... it's their job to create an environment of diligence and yet grace. Since your daughter is a minor, to be honest, I think she should have cc'd you and perhaps called you about this. Sorry
  10. I think that it helps to write out the schedule in one color and then go back and write what the other edition suggests in another color. Then you compare what you want... I did this.. pretty much... and now have a poster sized scope and sequence for my 1st grader through when he's in 12th. :-)
  11. Well, considering the boys I just heard... one year of voice lessons? They were awesome! I believe that their parents will be moving them to perhaps piano... but remember when Church Worshipers could sing together... producing a glorious sound to offer? Well... you gotta find your voice to do that :-) Then... .a piano and other instruments are great!! But soccer.... well... sports are good too... So... music for school... and sports for friends and skills :-) No help, huh??? Just wait till you get to start ballet:-) They are toooo cute!! And always steal the rehearsals:-)
  12. I'd look at the living math site. They have tons of ideas. Also, reading the living math books like Cindy Neuschwander's. You can check out tons at the library:-)
  13. I just LOVE having both of them:-) I go back and forth, I do CC, too... and I'm trying to understand how we'll do 7th grade. I plan to have her do CC, but I want her to do some of the LCC, too:-) :-)
  14. I'd have to say... that at 5 yrs old, your tutor makes ALL the difference... as well as the Director. Have coffee with the director:-) If the tutor is there... talk with her. As a parent, do you want your daughter to obey? Do you want her to learn to raise her hand? Work out problems with others? Do you want to deal with attitudes that are wrong? If so... Does it seem like she'll like to be in a class? CC can be VERY fun for little kids, if they are willing to be cooperative, do art projects, science projects, singing different songs;-) I think that Challenge, for older students.. can be a great thing. Your olders have each other... Perhaps Challenge will end up working for your younger... It's a great way for them to have some others to interact with. We just were going over Challenge this wknd and I really am excited to see if God moves in our community.. and we end up with a full Challenge program. ( I direct in Oregon:-) :-)
  15. I'd say that it's probably worth it for 5th graders to start... you'll get 2 years in before Challenge A and then you can decide. As far as Challenge, it's who the tutor is.... and how they present the material. You have to remember that CC is very into the Tutor being the Tutor, and the parents being the Teacher... That's pretty true, since you're with your children for 6 days and the Tutor... for part of one. :-) If you have seen your friend in action... and you know that it'd be a good fit... I'd do it. Like I mentioned... you'll have enough time to think about Challenge..... during that time, and hopefully be able to do some observation of the Tutors at your program:-) :-)
  16. I have 2 question firsts.... Are you planning to home educate through highschool? And..... Are you looking at Challenge? :bigear:
  17. Startwrite has a copy work type thing, which you can use to make your own copy work. There is one spot to do letters where you can have arrows, and one spot to click if you want a red dot for them to "start" at. Of course, I'm doing something that I hope helps. I have my son do cursive.... When he does write, I tell him... left to right... top to bottom.. when that's the proper way... I just tell him that it will help him write correctly, later, and that it's the "right" way. I also told him that learning to write is a privilege, and that he needs to obey. (Because, I've watched my older step daughters NEVER self correct. Smart girl who writes "o's" and "a's" and such from the bottom of the line... It's really just horrible penmanship... and I care. SWR and such have "directions" you go over for writing letters. You might check into this... and just start teaching him his letters:-) Good Luck!!
  18. These are what we learn with motions and such... So the kids have the fronts of the cards memorized.... (In chronological "Classical Conversations" style order.... versus... Veritas Press order... (chronological within geographical order...) :-) Oh... and for the Bible part of them..... the Journey Bible something... can go with them.... Maybe someone will tell you about this... It's not a Bible to read... it's information about the different things... hmmmm...
  19. Who was the man, who when he was a teen boy... had to...(dig lines?) until he decided that he WOULD do school after all? I think it was a famous pastor?? Can anyone guess who this would be?? This is work that his father had him do.... kinda like "Ok, don't wanna do school work? You can do physical labour until school work looks good!" Thanks! :-)
  20. Practise is seems to be the British way of spelling it... at least the Dictionary.com says. Perhaps like realise or realize and such. :-)
  21. Sorry.... that part turns into ... "No, I invited her.... Kinda like VBS... where~when you get "points" for inviting friends.... bringing in change.. and all that other stuff.... Sorry again.... Although... our Awana program isn't so strict as the post quoted ahead of mine. Ours would let you have the shirt, the jewels and other such things... After all... Your daughter EARNED them... Bummer....
  22. I feel for you. I can soooo understand people not taking the food allergies seriously. My daughter's teacher in school was upset about kids washing their hands after lunch.... And she has eczema, too(along with nut and peanut allergies), although it is SO much better now than when she was younger. (She's 11) So, have hope... it can get better!! I had always heard that if it's not better by 3 or 4... it was here to stay. She was a bloody mess at 4... and at 11... you can barely tell. Hope the Dr can help!!
