  1. SarahandDavid has a curriculum that is good.
  2. With our Sienna... we use the premium (best one) gas... because of problems right around the one year mark... with chugging. It's really not much price difference gas wise, because it runs better on higher octane... (That's what it's called, right??) We got Sienna over Odyssey because... I wanted 8 seats and I liked the toyota guy better. If I had to do it again.. for that model... (2004??) I would purchase an Odyssey. So, I guess it's all about years..
  3. I think that for "pounds" it's about 2 or 3 percent of your dog's weight... which for us... 65lbs would be about 1 1/3 lbs per day. I actually had started upping his meat too much and have had to back down, due to... well... I should be exercising him more :( He does well eating ... and then fasting the next day... if that's what we choose. Works well for if you'll be gone for a day... Feed a lot one day... then fast when you're driving to your vacation. i wouldn't advise this for a pup... ours is older... And, while we're out, we might give him a few treats :) As far as the heart murmur... I wonder if there are special things, homeopathically, that you could do to help him out.
  4. Chicken Divan made with Broccoli and not to much shredded chicken. (With homemade White Sauce) ... I like lots of bread crumbs mixed with butter on top... (like at least a recipe and a half of them....) Yum!!! :) (Oh yes... cheese... lots of cheese...)
  5. I would do... library books... unit studies on fun things.... and a phonics program if your oldest wants to. For my son, we did just phonics cards with saying the sounds. (I held up like flashcards) I added one every few days. (or so) I used Handwriting Without Tears for cursive. (interesting... read Don Potter's articles on why cursive first is best) I would just do center kind of things... for this whole first year... and then concentrate on moving on when your oldest is 7 with a bit more formal. You can always buy Singapore Math for your kids... and do it as you can. (I love Singapore, and suggest buying the Teacher's guide, too. As well as Liping Ma's book on how to "think math" like the Singapore Math) I also like the Bluedorn's and think it's a great book... especially for those with multiple kids... Teach lots of "character" and learning by having fun :)
  6. Wow, sorry that's how you think about it. My son is the cutest, with an incredible sense of humour. He is just a sweet kid, with a joking side that is just starting to really blossom. The other day, he was thinking he was a real brain for thinking of calling me like he calls the dog. And, he's 7, so it wasn't rude. It was actually a "Wow, you think you're pretty smart, eh??" kind of moment. He's just hilarious. And, when he's called, and responds with a "yes ma'am" my heart melts because he's just so darn sweet. He's a joy, and not afraid of anything or anyone.... so... it really just is how a child's personality works, and how their parents treat them. I can say that he's just as naughty as the next person sometimes.... but I wouldn't say that he feels in trouble.... He just is a kid that kind of takes to "manners" as he knows them. He also says "please and thankyou" without reminders. (We didn't ever say, "what do you say?" we just modeled...) Oh well, :(
  7. This is the Lawyer that taught at the Law School that my dad attended. Good to know that John Whitehead is busy defending 6 year olds. :)
  8. I don't find clothing and titles to be the same. But, what I do think is that you are requiring your child to acknowledge a title of an adult, that isn't by the other adults choosing, but rather yours. I'm not sure how far I would go to go against another adult. I do understand it's uncomfortable or not what some adults wish. I don't imagine that if the queen said, "Please, call me Liz" that you would go against that. But, I also can't imagine her doing so. I do believe that a title is an acknowledgement of authority, and that for me as an adult, reminds me that I am to be of the "adult world". Of course, laundry, dishes, and children screaming in the background, do too. :)
  9. Isn't a party where you take what you want to take?? It's a gift, right? You don't tell others what to get you... (well, for a registry you do... but no one HAS to do it that way :)) I think telling others what to do... is rude... and taking a gift at all... is kind :)
  10. To me it's polite :) Many times I say "yes ma'am or sir" while speaking with others. When I am doing Info Meetings for instance, I say "yes ma'am" when a lady raises their hand... etc... It's acknowledgement and polite, at least the way I was raised... :)
  11. Unless someone can suggest why not, I'd go with what I feed my pup. I feed a raw food diet. You would add Salmon oil, which I get from Amazon Prime :) SO... sorry about the health thing..
  12. Wanted 6 by 30; had 2 by 32 :) Oh well.. pregnancy equals sickness all day for me... (pretty much all the way till done) and my deliveries are... well... horrible. (But great results both times :))
  13. The person.. in Pueblo... that I knew... over ten years ago, charged $5 and hour for full time.. ($200 a week??) :)
  14. http://www.lamppostpublishing.com/all-american-history-curriculum.htm Volume 2 Civil War to the 21st Century This is a really nice curriculum, and what we're using for co-op. It's meant to be used by a co-op and I believe the author has a Dr in History. She wrote it for the co-op she participated in... and it's quite doable... The parents can make it go up or down, and .... the company will give you a discount at a certain amount of books ordered... :) (PS, if you end up using it, I'd love to know!! I'd love a spot where teachers/directors can share what and how curriculums are working in their groups! :))
  15. We taught our son to say "yes ma'am and sir" by just modeling it. "Sweetie would you like a cookie? Yes ma'am or no ma'am...." Of course, refusal to say it would be disobedience. And, of course, we're weird cuz we have him call others by Mr, Mrs, Ms or Dr... (whatever the person's title) Some don't care for that, and I have a friend who is by her first name.... but with others, it's just the relationship I'm willing for my child to have with adults. Anything other than title and last or first name, is too intimate for my child and another adult.
  16. I'd LOVE to have all the names of the co-ops so we can possibly chat back and forth!!! I'd love to have them. I'm sending you my email :) Also, we are using SOTW for up to 6th grade, so I'd love to find out about anyone doing co-ops with Story Of The World. Thanks!!
  17. For the peas you could use margarine (no dairy) and Fish where I nannied was considered parve, so in other words, "neutral"..... I got great at not mixing dairy and meat. Wow... almost 20 years ago.. now. I love love love... potato knish... and also "mushroom barley" and latkes with sour cream and applesauce... Well... I love Challah and French Toast the next morning with Challah... (spelled either with CH or H, right?? It's been a while.) ;)
  18. I'm truly sorry for you and your family :( Wishing you happy memories... and calmness ... and rest ... to help you through this time ... So Sorry :(
  19. I think it's fine... My daughter was about 18 months. Perhaps ask her how she does it. If she just says the word or whatever ("potty") and sits her down... perfect. It's really not natural for children to want to soil in their own diaper... early training that comes before the 2's is best in my opinion. Of course... if it's an issue that becomes bad... she can always just have a break and wait. (She won't spank her or anything, right?? just be normal about catching her when she's almost ready...) Sounds good!! :)
  20. There have to be more families in My Father's World Co-ops than... well... none :( Aren't any of them on these boards?? We're using Story of the World for students 6th grade and under and MFW for 9-12... :)
  21. So sorry, how incredibly sad :( Let us know how it goes with these next few hours :(
