  1. All of mine (six) were like that. I had to give up all dairy and they slept on a little wedge that elevated their heads slightly. I did extended breastfeeding and at about a year I could add a tiny bit of dairy. One was really sensitive and I never could have dairy while breastfeeding her.
  2. I need help. I am gone from home quite a bit due to everyone's doctor appointments. My mil comes over to take care of things, watch the children, and do school. Mil and 10ds just cannot do school. He is convinced that she doesn't know anything and can't help him. She finally had it with him today and asked me to get him independent work to do while she is here. I will do FLL, WWE, and Beast Academy with him. I will go over the lesson part of Math Mammoth and he will do the problems on his own. He will do Reflexmath, Lumosity, and Dreambox on his own. I need things for him to do when I am not here. Would prefer no computer since he already has several computer things, and whatever it is it must be independent. No messy art or science experiment type things since the only place to do them would be the dining room table and that would probably lead to more problems with mil. I am not trying to cover anything specific. Mostly this is busy work to keep him out of mil hair. She needs to be able to say do your school work and he does it independently.
  3. That's funny. PP is the only thing that I have used with every one (six of them) of my children. My 15dd asked me to save my copy when I am done with it. She wants to use it with her children.
  4. What paperwork do I need to be able to talk with 18dd doctors? I need to be able to talk with the doctors, get her test results, act on her behalf, discuss bills, etc. She is not unconscious or crazy, but she has a seizure disorder and needs help. What paperwork do I need and where do I get it?
  5. 15dd would like The Hobbit in Spanish and would like it as close to the original as possible. Does anyone have a recommendation?
  6. I eat sunflower seeds. The ones with the shell that you have to open one at a time. I also take a wet washcloth that I keep freezing cold with an ice pack to wipe my face or neck. Keep the vehicle on the cooler side. No sugar for me as that makes me sluggish feeling. Drink ice water. Crunch pellet ice from Sonic.
  7. Dd's Spanish teacher in Guatemala helped us name our goats this year. We have Conejo (rabbit), Bartollo, Domingo, and Paco.
  8. Below is a cut and paste of what I posted on our CaringBridge. Pray we make it through the weekend without having to go back to the er. They will admit her, but nothing will happen until Monday. If nothing is going to be done over the weekend, we would just as soon skip the admit and wait until Monday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11am Miriam has had another seizure. Not as severe as yesterday, but it lasted for sixteen minutes instead of one. She isn't having a seizure right now. Correction, she is back to having a seizure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12pm Miriam is back to normal. If she has to go back to the er, they will admit her to the hospital and wait until the neurologist comes to see her on Monday. They will not do anything for her, just observation, unless it becomes an emergency. Our prayer is to get through this weekend with as few problems as possible and make it until Monday when we can get an appointment. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  9. Dd has not been on meds or in contact with her neurologist in over six years, and the two neurologists she saw are no longer with the hospital. You can't call the on call neurologist unless you are a current patient. I did take her to the er. It was empty, and she was taken back immediately. They checked her out, did blood work, EKG, urinalysis, and neuro exam. Since she had a ct scan two weeks ago (came back fine), they didn't repeat it. They sent us home with a referral to neurology, and we are to call Monday and get her an appointment. That's it. Don't take her back to the er unless she has more than three seizures or a seizure lasts more than three minutes. Dd doesn't feel good. She has a bad headache and all of her muscles are sore. She has a large lump on her calf from kicking something while having the seizure. Thanks for the prayers and advice.
  10. 18dd had petit mal seizures growing up.At puberty, she had one grand mal. She was on Keppra for a year, had a clean EKG, and was released from care. No problems until here recently. She started to have minor seizure activity a couple of weeks ago. Ct scan was ok. Tonight she had a grand mal seizure. She's ok now. Kind of grumpy and weepy. Is it best to take her in or could I wait for our family doctor on Monday? We have so much going on with Steven's brain cancer and Hannah's problems related to cancer treatment. If we could avoid a trip to the er, everyone would feel better. I will do what is right, but we have had so much of the hospital the last two years. UPDATE IN POST 13 UPDATE AGAIN IN POST 22
  11. Dh thought the scrambled eggs would be safe and ate them. Turns out our hospital uses an egg mix that is only part eggs. The other part is corn, soy, corn syrup, and lots of other yucky things.
  12. We have spent a lot of time in hospitals over the last two years. Ditto to everything you said about the cafeteria, but you forgot to mention the huge Bluebell icecream freezer next to each cash register. When dh was in for his craniotomy, the ICU doctor told him the hospital couldn't accomodate his allergies (corn, wheat, beans, nuts) and dh would have to bring his own food from outside. 7dd had over thirty hospital stays the last two years and had lots of trouble with food since she won't eat typical child food (nuggets, pizza, hamburgers, poptarts, etc). She had to get a doctors order so she could order off a different menu. It appears that chicken caesar salads and fresh fruit are only for teenagers.
  13. We raised turkeys one year, and they were STUPID. In spite of everything we tried, they insisted on roosting on the rottweilers fence. The rottweiler would jump up and pull their tail feathers one by one. After he ran out of tail feathers, he would just jump up and knock them off the fence. The turkeys would shake themselves off and hop back on the fence. The dog never hurt them, but the turkeys never learned anything either.
  14. Dhs doctor wants him to take a calcium supplement since he is on steroids. What is the most absorbable form?
  15. Currently we make Viili yogurt. To make one quart, put four tablespoons of the starter in a quart jar, fill the jar with milk, stir, and let sit covered (I use a coffee filter held on with a rubber band) on the counter for 12-18 hours. When it is thick, put in the refrigerator for six hours and then it's done. Make sure to save some for your next batch. I got the starter on ebay and have just ordered the Caspian Sea yogurt to try. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Viili-Culture-Yogurt-Starter-Finnish-Curd-ORGANIC-/390547564463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5aee72e7af
  16. We have never had success making heated yogurt. Something would always happen to prevent me from doing whatever to it at the right time. Now we use counter yogurt and it works great every time.
  17. The neuro congnitive psychiatrist my husband saw for testing after his craniotomy, recommended Lumosity to improve brain function. Dh signed up for a free trial and after that, we signed up for the family membership. The games are difficult for him due to brain damage, but he is slowly improving. Though challenging, the children (10-17yrs) are having fun with the games. Blessings, Melinda
  18. For the last few days, every time I open Firefox, my window opens up and another window pops up too. The second window is usually a game or an infomercial. Is anyone else having this trouble? What can I do to get rid of this?
  19. Ditto everything everyone else said, especially loud and not too smart. Ours were very dedicated sitters, but we had to take the eggs away from them. They would sit on a nest, get covered in ants (since it was on the ground), and not move for anything. The most annoying thing though, was their decision to take their long nailed toes up on my metal roof to roost. Think fingernails on blackboard, off and on, all night long.
  20. Every weekday morning we have scrambled eggs and oatmeal with blueberries or leftover meat and rice 'n shine for the one with allergies. On the weekends we have fried eggs and a different flavor of oatmeal or leftover meat and a different flavored grits (or cold cereal). Occasionally on the weekends we have bacon.
  21. I don't know a lot since dd hasn't been using PAC Biology for long, but I'll share what I know. There are six softcover texts. Each "text" has fifteen lessons, and the lessons are two to six pages long. The vocabulary is in boxes and the vocabulary words in the text are bolded. The cover is color but the insides are black and white. Pictures and charts are also black and white. Font is large and while the pages are full of information, it doesn't seem overly cluttered. Each lesson has a Life Principle at the end. For instance, "In everything, I believe the secret of success is prolonged effort" by Louis Pasteur. There are activity guides to match each text. Again, softcover, black and white print, largish font. The questions are directly from the text and consist of fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, true/false, matching, and writing out each life principle. The questions you will need to know for future tests are marked. I would not use this with a normal high school leveled child. I ordered this for my daughter as a last resort/get it done biology class. She struggles with anything academic and is not college bound. If she makes it through biology, we will be using other PAC classes because it is the easiest thing I have found. My 12ds and 14dd would be bored to tears doing this curriculum. I ordered from CBD. You can buy the workbooks or a dvd to print your own. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, I'll try and answer them.
  22. We are using the free Elementary Life Science, but how do you buy any of the other books? I have searched all over the site and can't find anywhere to buy. Also, where did you find out about the sale?
