  2. Taking Hannah to appointments will take up most of today. Two MRIs, chest x-ray, labwork, and oncologist visit. Visit with social worker about Hannah's Make-a-Wish trip. Call and verify NuMotion got prescription for Rebekah's wheelchair. Make list for children left at home. School at hospital for Caleb while waiting for Hannah to be done. Meet with realtor to see house. Supervise boys putting tire on trailer. Post office Tonight after children's bedtime-email one friend, call different friend, work on bills, look for properties online
  3. Our eye doctor is like that. The only way they will schedule all six is if I give them a credit card number to guarantee the appointments.
  4. Thanks for the encouragement. I think part of my concern about older houses is from my growing up. My dad always wanted a newer house. He grew up poor, so I think having a newer house equated to being successful in his mind. I don't have anything against older homes, but my dad always wanted newer so I never really considered older. Most of the homes we are looking at are older, but they seem to have held up very well. We are going to get inspections and estimates on everything before making any decisions. There just doesn't seem to be much choice in our area, and we are having to look farther away. But then again, maybe our requirements are too picky. Thanks everyone for your help.
  5. The usual things like lead paint and asbestos. We already have enough health problems and don't want to add anything else. Things like electrical would be done professionally, but tearing down walls and remodeling would be done by the children and I. I'm willing to work hard and fix things up, but I don't have the money to be hiring a lot of work out. Here is one place we are looking at. It seems like quite a few houses in this area are older, but not as old as this one. This is a bit far for where we want to live, but we are looking at everything. http://www.trulia.com/property/3169004765-826-Fm-979-Cameron-TX-76520
  6. That was quick. Pretty sure we have Pine Nut Syndrome. The only person not affected is 16dd that has allergies and is eating differently. I hope it goes away quickly. Of course, I guess until it wears off it would be a good way to lose weight. Everything tastes terrible. Now, even water tastes bad. Thanks so much for solving our mystery.
  7. We have recently started eating broccoli salad and have had pine nuts a couple of times a week recently. Last time was Sunday evening. Bad taste started Tuesday. Why do you ask?
  8. Would the fact that a house was built in 1946, be enough to make you not even consider it?
  9. Since yesterday, whenever we eat something, it tastes terrible. Foods have a very bitter taste. I thought maybe we got some bad food, but this morning it is scrambled eggs and oatmeal that taste bad. Drinking a cup of water doesn't cause any yucky tastes, but any food we eat tastes bad. This is all seven of us. What could be wrong?
  10. We love Sentence Family. We did it several years ago with the older children and are now going through it with the little ones. We don't do the drawing. I have laminated copies of the color character pages. I read the story. We use a dry erase board big enough for everyone to see. I dictate a sentence and whoever can write it does. We parse the sentence using different colored dry erase markers to underline the different characters. After we parse, we put them to bed(diagram). All of the children take turns marking the different parts. We play with it in the car with me giving them sentences and them picking out the characters. The best part is playing the game we made up. After we learned the storyline, I pretend to see someone coming down the road and I ask "Who is that, and what are they doing?" I'd squint and look and say, "He's pointing and talking. What is he saying?" (listen attentively) "He's saying tree, rock, bird, sky." By now, all the little ones are beside themselves hollering that it's Noun. We did this with all the different characters. We got our copy of The Sentence Family from St Michael's, and I consider it one of my best homeschooling purchases. The children love it, and it was so easy for them to learn the parts of speech when they were thinking of them as people, instead of some abstract rule to be memorized.
  11. They get cleaner if you wash them the way they were worn. Living on a farm, makes it important that the "stuff" (dirt, hay) get off of them. The children have been really good about turning them right side out, since I started making the first offender I find, go through and check that all are rso before I wash.
  12. I need scrapbooking adhesive. Something sturdy enough to hold cards. Any recommendations? It would be great if I could purchase it online.
  13. Is anyone else having trouble getting it copied? Staples won't copy it for me. They say the copyright covers me printing a copy for my own use, but they (Staples) is a third party and they won't print it without a release from the publisher.
  14. I'm so sorry for your loss. At Steven's funeral, my sil sang Amazing Grace, the children and I sang Psalm 121 (Steven's favorite Psalm), and we played It Won't Be Long by the Wissmann Family.
  15. I don't have any practical advice, but I did want to give a :grouphug: and tell you how sorry I am for your loss.
  16. Are you looking specifically for a sling, or just a carrier of some king. It's not a sling, but I loved my Ergo. You can wear them front or back. It leaves your hands free, and I could carry my toddlers for a long time on my back without tiring or ending up with a backache. http://store.ergobaby.com/
  17. 16dd has EB and has had mono since November.
  18. In the last couple of months, Mapquest has given me wrong information several times. I need an actual GPS unit, not a smartphone app. Recommendations?
  19. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to be with him.
  20. What would you do with vhs tapes? I either need to buy a vhs player or buy the tapes again in dvd form or ??? What are my options? I'm talking Moody science videos, Spanish videos, etc. We do watch them, but not all the time. I'll get our family vhs transferred to dvd, but what about the others?
  21. I need a scanner so I can scan and store papers. I already have a good black and white printer and a good color printer so all I need is a scanner. Anyone have a scanner they love?
