I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good resource for teenagers to investigate various career paths. Is it better to read a general book like: The Art of Work: A Proven Path to Discovering What You Were Meant to DoThis book has has a high rating on Amazon (642 people commented on it so far) Or, is it better to refer to some website rather than read a book? Or, is it better to buy more specific books directly related to a field that the teenager MIGHT be interested in? (for instance, a book about a career in writing) Also, what is the best website to refer to for understandi

Hi. I just finished reading a book called "Make it Stick". It was about how to make learning stick in a kid's brain. We have an issue with that. Anyway I thought the book was very interesting, but the focus was more on learning in college and for adults. It didn't have a lot of ideas, but the ideas that it did have were well presented and supported. Anyway for anyone who seems to have a kid who forgets things as soon as they learn them, they might be interested in the book (it is new so only in hardback, but check for it at the library). (just fyi I haven't been around

Here is the time to vote on books for the nascent monthly book club. PLEASE VOTE ONLY IF YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MONTHLY BOOK CLUB. Please make 3 or fewer choices. Note that the compare and contrast books were listed both separately or together. I also listed the LOTR series, but I also gave the option of the just the first book in the series. The books listed in the poll are those that were mentioned by name and seconded by another member. I apologize if I overlooked any worthy books. It was not intentional. Today is Tuesday, January 2nd, 2013. Voting will remain o

It's started. The eye-rolling, the sarcasm, the silent treatment. I need to read up on raising a tween girl (11-12 yo), to be the nice person she was a few weeks ago. What books have you read that you liked? (Sometimes I think I don't have her in middle school not to protect her from the mean girls...but to protect the rest of the girls from *her*! (Just kidding...sort of.) PS, should I cross-post this to the Logic Stages board, or is it most appropriate on this forum?

Long shot, I know, but there used to be a mom who posted here who also maintained a blog, where she reviewed books that she'd read. I can't remember her name. Here's what I can remember: 1. She was Mormon. 2. She was an avid reader. 3. She had a sharp wit. 4. She could review a book in such a way that made you: a) not able to resist reading it or B) never pick it up. Ring a bell with anyone? I really miss her reviews and can't stand the thought of another summer of reading without her advice. Many thanks!!

Has anyone read this book or listened to it on audio? We love the game, and one of the kids wanted to read the book, but I can find no reviews that discuss the book as far as suitability for kids...so I'm turning to the all-knowing Hive! Thanks.

I'm about halfway through this new book by the founder of the Khan Academy, and it is a great read. Although he hasn't directly mentioned homeschooling, he started out afterschooling his nieces, and a lot of what he has to say is very applicable to homeschoolers. (Mastery teaching, teaching in small chunks, one-on-one attention, "flipped" classrooms, etc.). It certainly is an inspirational read, and for those of us who get overwhelmed from time to time, reading books like this is a good pick-me-up, and way to recharge our batteries. I really like how he has some educational theories beh

My son (5) is crazy about dinosaurs. He loves learning facts from Dino Dan. Do you know of a great dino encyclopedia or big book that can last him more than a couple of years? I have looked at amazon reviews, but I am just not sure.

Hello, I recently got my hands off every book in this (The Teacher Key, Quiz/Test Student and Teacher books, the Solutions Manual and the Student Edition), but don't have the curriculum (daily lessons manual). Is it possible for someone to give me an idea of one of the lessons please? Thank you, Adrian.

Last year, I found out that our book store (Books-A-Million) gives homeschool educators a 20% discount card for free. We can use it for books and most materials at the store and online. It has saved us a lot of money so far. I think we should qualify for more educator discounts. Does anyone else have any ideas and tips for saving money when buying books and materials for homeschooling?
