  1. My daughter is 26 and she has done this since she was 3. She started talking at 13 months of age, was speaking in complete sentences by 18 months. By the time she was 3, she was watching documentaries on television and telling me all about them.
  2. I wonder if some of the employers of these children when they grow up will see "sloppy" as subjective. I'm certain that this is why places like Wal-Mart and Goodwill have such strict dress codes. It is because this generation just starting to work has no idea what is or isn't appropriate to wear to work.
  3. When my daughter was still school age, if I wanted her to do school work that day, yes, I made her get dressed... otherwise she would have just laid around all day and wouldn't have got anything accomplished. I'm pretty much the same way.
  4. If so, what did you think of them? Were they helpful with a Great Books study?
  5. If so, were they helpful to a Great Books study? What did you think of them?
  6. If you have, what did you think of them? Were they helpful in a Great Books study?
  7. I can't... because if I do I will be banned for personally attacking someone.
  8. Even the ads for Tamiflu only say that it will make you feel better 1.3 days sooner than you would if you didn't take it. I don't see how that is very helpful.
  9. It sounds like a great way to share germs to me. You never know when someone is going to come down with someone and if you just used the same fork or cup that they did..... ewwwwww!!!!
  10. My daughter technically isn't a teenager anymore since she is 26, but I answered like she was when she was a teenager. She has always been one to stay up later and sleep in later... even as an infant.
  11. I was going off the person who claims that getting an education is a privilege and not a right. To me that is saying that if you or your parents can't afford to send you to college (even community college), you don't deserve to go.
  12. I thought this was about community colleges. The community colleges here don't have dorms or any kind of place to stay at the school.
  13. This is not a joke. I can't see any other reason why someone would be offended at another person getting help to get an education so they can't better themselves. If you have an idea as to why this would be just let me know.
  14. I'm sorry, but I have a difficult time comprehending how some people on here don't want to see certain people educated. I'm guessing (just my opinion) that some think they are better than others because they have money (most likely always have had) so they think the poor should be kept poor so they can feel superior to them. I think it is sad that anyone would have this view.
  15. You must live in a different world than some of us do.
  16. Personally I think the view of college being a privilege and not a right is one way of saying only certain people deserve to go to college and make a decent living. If you come from a poor family somehow it is your fault and therefore you deserve to live poor your entire life. It is easy to tell who has had advantages financially their entire lives and have no clue what it is like to not be able to afford anything... sometimes not even needs like food and such.
  17. I am on facebook because that is how I find out how people in my extended family are doing. However, I would rather not be on facebook. I had no idea there were people out there so adamant that everyone needs to be on facebook. Why be so judgmental? I'm sure people have great reasons why they are not on facebook.
  18. I've read this series. My daughter and mother have as well. We have this book on hold at the library.
  19. This is probably why the only people I ever do anything with are my daughter (and her friend), my mother, and my sister. All the other "friends" I had would never call me first and quite often would bail on me before we got together anyway. I'm kind of a lone wolf anyway, so I am content to just spend time alone or with my family. I do wish I had at least one good friend I could have intelligent conversations with though... not that I can't with my daughter and mother.
  20. I am reading Plato: All that Matters ... and thoroughly enjoying it. I am also reading Prince Caspian and started reading Gateway to the Great Books. It was very enjoyable to read about John Stuart Mill's education. I just finished a book about Count Zinzendorf. So, tell me, what are you in the process of reading currently?
  21. We used to buy boxers for my brother all the time for Christmas. He loved it.
  22. It doesn't matter to bullies whether your child was homeschooled or has always been in public school, they are going to bully. This goes on all the time. I don't know where you live, but it makes me wonder how much you actually know about public school these days.
  23. I also scored a 4. I'm not really surprised. Tomorrow I'll have my outgoing daughter take it. I'm curious to see how she scores.
  24. A book (that I asked for) from my daughter. A t-shirt (also that I asked for) from my mother, as well as a Farmer's Almanac for 2015. From my siblings: puzzles, a scarf, 2 mugs, nail polish, and GF cookie mix. From Santa (no we don't believe in Santa... we just like doing stockings): earrings, a Hello Kitty Pez Dispenser (I've always wanted one of these), a candy cane with kisses in it, football cards, and Play-Doh.
  25. I would remove both children right away if it were me. I don't think either child should have to deal with what is happening to them. Clearly your dd is also having issues with something at school or she wouldn't be exhibiting the signs you mentioned. I have a hard time believing that someone doesn't believe this stuff actually happens in public school. It happens all the time, in every area of the country, at every age. My daughter has a friend who lives in Georgia. She homeschools her daughter because she was being bullied in Kindergarten and the school wouldn't do anything about it. I guess some people have never actually set foot in a public school lately.
