  1. We do tennis as a family. It is such a good lifelong sport to play.
  2. I have always had a toaster oven. I love it. I rarely use it for toast, though. We toast bagels (big family here so it saves time), bake mini pizzas, a small batch of biscuits, corndogs, etc. It also keeps my house cooler in the summer. I hate using the big oven in the summer because we live where it is very hot in the summer.
  3. I found that my children who struggled were stressed because they weren't getting reading. They put a lot of pressure on themselves because they wanted to read but couldn't. Backing off would have made it worse. They were relieved when we got a diagnosis and found how best to teach the dyslexic mind.
  4. Yes, yes, and yes! I was very much into the better late than early camp for reading early on in my homeschooling career. I have 2 dyslexic children. I wished I would have had them tested earlier. My adult son still really struggles.
  5. 1. thinking homeschooling is the only and best way 2. comparing myself to others--seeking for the best curriculum 3. waiting too long to have children tested for LD's because of a belief in better late philosophy
  6. Try apple cider vinegar. Works wonders for us.
  7. I would leave be if they are happy, but that is me. How do your dc feel about friends? Are they very extroverted? If so, they may not be happy at home unless you provide a lot of social opportunities for them. If you do decide to homeschool them again, I would do it sooner rather than later. As they get closer to middle school, many children like to be at school. Both my middle school kids (are in private school) don't want to come home (and it is not an option for them anyways) They love the social aspect now. Good luck deciding.
  8. We try to do nature study 1x week so we do 4 days of our regular science curriculum and then 1 day of nature study.
  9. My dyslexic Dd will be doing: AAS Wilson reading with dyslexia tutor Winston grammar Bravewriter SOTW 1 audio Abeka science with learning ally Math u see
  10. My girls were 13, 13 1/2, and waiting for third dd to start and she is 1 month shy of 14. I was 3 months shy of 15 when I started. We are all skinny and on the short side.
  11. I spend $600 for 7, including household stuff but live in a low col and don't buy organic.
  12. I used a test that sat in 100+ moving pod for over a month, and I was sure it wasn't right because of that. No, it was right. Heat didn't affect the test result. I was pregnant.
  13. I like to plan a year at a time. I even print it all out because I love something about having a whole planned out year on paper even if it doesn't happen exactly as planned.
  14. Yes, go to a regular md for a check up and they can give you an anti-depressant. I couldn't afford counseling so I went to my pastor at church. He knew someone who did pro bono work so now I have a counselor that I don't have to pay! Most counselors/psychiatrists do some pro bono work, but you have to really dig.
  15. I'm there with you. I have an 18, 15, 13 & almost 12. Only the 9 year old is sensible and sweet. No advice.
  16. My 13,11, and 10 have one about every other week ( at parties, friends). My older teens probably at least weekly. My 2 young adult children almost daily. I rarely gave them soda when little. We didn't buy it because of expense. I actually never drink any soda; I hate it, but none of my children acquired my habit.
  17. When young, say 10 and under, I combined. Once they hit resend, the needed to be apart because they would fight or just act completly silly.
  18. I am so sorry. I will indeed pray for you. I would focus on math, reading comprehension, and writing. Make sure he knows how to take tests.
  19. They have some DK Science books. We are using the light one right now for science.
  20. Revisiting this thread: Did anyone get this? I showed it to my dd dyslexia tutor and her first thoughts were it is a British company, and they spell many things differently. I haven't look into it much but wondering if they have a USA English spelling version.
  21. It will be ok. Check out my blog. I went through a lot of losing my identity (although I am back to hs one) and feeling like I had lost friends and was a failure. I have made lots of friends through the school, and it has been wonderful! So many good people.
  22. I wanted something better educationally for my children. I had read many books by John Holt in college while doing my final research paper for graduation. It was on homeschooling. (this was in the late 80's) I was convinced after doing that paper. Now, only homeschooling 1, I am doing it because homeschooling seems to be best for my dyslexic child. The others are better off at school right now.
  23. Lately it has been milk duds. I alternate with other candies...It's bad, but I love it!!!
  24. Yes I'm checking learning ally to see what they have before purchasing anything to see if it's worth it to get a subscription. Dd will have her subscription through the end of the school year through the private school I just removed her from.
  25. only a couple have audio CDds, but I just looked and they have those on learning ally as well. The advantage with buying cra is I could resell them when done. I don't know yet if I'll buy my own learning ally subscription. Not sure how much I would use it.
