  1. I'm 50. The older I get, the less I know.

Amen to that. I remember when I knew everything, lol. Especially about parenting. You know, when I was single!

I was a perfect parent before I had my first kid. Now that I have five, I don't know much about parenting. Happy birthday!!

      ....

I know, right? I feel that way, too!!

  2. All of the above and the country music hall of fame!
  3. My new 2016 has 10,000 miles on it. I got it the end of August brand new. No low miles for me. We are rural and drive a lot!
  4. Thank you Kelly, for the questions to get me thinking. Sadly, there is no option for dual enrollment where we live, but someone I know told me about a homeschool group and coop within a reasonable driving distance. The Gym where she is a competitive gymnast recently started a homeschool practice which may help her get to know some of her homeschooled teammates better. ( she is new to the team) So, I am looking in case this is what we decide. I am meeting with all of her teachers soon (as a group) because I don't think they are all following her accommodations. It does concern me how anxious she is. Dyslexics tend to be prone to anxiety and depression, and we have a history of these illnesses in our family, so I am very concerned.
  5. Yes, I think my dad needs a more intimate setting to develop close friendships. Thanks.
  6. She is actually very shy so when I took her out in 4th grade, I did get her involved in a lot, but she struggled to make new friends. A lot of her previous good friends went to school about that time. We live in a fairly rural area, but there are options not too far away. She is now on a competitive gymnastics team which may be helpful. They just started an extra practice day for the homeschool girls on team. Lots to consider. Thanks.
  7. How important is it for kids to have consistency in school choice/location? Some history: My 6th grader homeschooled kinder, we put her in school for first half of first grade (private) because we were dealing with a crisis. Once that was over, she came home through 4 th. She wanted to try private school again because her other siblings had gone the year before and she was a bit lonely. She had just been diagnosed with dyslexia the spring before, but we decided to let her go. She only made it 3/4 of the way thru the year before she came home due to academic struggles/anxiety. She stayed home for 5th as well, but this past summer said she was lonely. She finished her dyslexia tutoring and was up to grade level so asked if she could go back. We let her, figuring that now she was on grade level it would be managible. After Thankgiving, she began having more anxiety and crying spells. Last few nights she has thrown huge fits, begging not to go back. I have met with the special ed teacher twice since Thanksgiving and they tweaked her modifications/accommodations, but it hasn't helped. I am at my wits end. I feel foolish for letting her go back this year (I think home is best for those struggling with LD'S), but I don't know if this pattern is good for her.
  8. Same thing here. Two youngest rarely played with toys while the orders did when young. Weird.
  9. My husband is a head tennis coach and it is the assistant who takes over.
  10. I'd be careful about bringing him home too soon. It's a change that takes getting used to. Homeschooling may be fine now for daughter but it is the honeymoon stage and both of you need time to find your groove as well as your son in school. Driving him sounds like the best idea. Evaluate at Christmas or after a longer period of time. I pulled my kids too soon from school one year ( after thanksgiving) and now wished I would have given it more time.
  11. I was trying to fly home from my grandmas funeral with my 4 month old baby. Needless to say, we didn't get to fly home that day.
  12. We have a Clara and an Emma. Picked them because we like classic names too.
  13. I've been at this for 21 years. Some of my kids have been in school, but I have always had someone at home. I'm down to my last 2 and I am just tired of it all. Mid- life slump kinda thing. I tried getting at a job at one do private school so I could bring these last 2 with me, but enrollment is down and they ended up not needing another teacher. I really want/ need a job.
  14. Anyone know where I can find some excitement for another year of homeschooling? After so many years, I'm just not feeling it this year.
  15. We are just about to start a travel team (called select baseball) after being in Little League ball ( recreational). He was asked to join when he was 10 ,but we said no. He is 13 now and our youngest is 11. There is no overnight/far travel so I'm hoping it's not too bad. We didn't do this for our older son because there were so many little ones under him. I don't think I could handle it well if I had to haul kids with me.
  16. They list each semester as a half credit for high school and 3 hour college credit. So for her fall semester of college algebra she will receive 3 hours of college algebra credit and .5 credit of high school math (pre-cal). I am in Texas. btw.
  17. My daughter is signed up for 2 dual credit classes in the fall: Biology (with lab) and College Algebra. Can I count these as full year high school courses? I received a chart from the community college that listed high school classes equivalent to their college course. They have them listed as a semester of high school credit and 3 hours college credit. Must I follow this?
  18. Do you mean online consignment or a local store? And what type of store does this?
  19. I don't normally sell stuff except used curriculum when I no longer need it, but I need to sell 2 books I own but don't know the best place to sell them. They are limited edition signed copies and both are worth about $300-500 each. I thought of eBay first but as with any place I sell I won't have any ratings as a seller. Will that harm my chances? Any ideas on good places to try to sell them?
  20. Walk. We live about 1/2 mile from a grocery store and McDonalds. My kids quite frequently ask me to drive them when they want something. Just a few days ago my 11 year old wanted to go buy her dad a bday gift. She only asked if she could go not for me to take her. They are learning!
  21. I hate white baseball pants!!! A man who didn't do laundry invented these. I feel for you. Sorry.
  22. I think there have been good and bad things. I don't regret giving my children the time to be kids, read extensively, romp around the woods, etc., but none of my adult children (3 of them) will homeschool because they don't think the good outweighs the bad. However, only one has a child so that may change things. I guess time will tell from their perspective. Overall, I think it was/is worth it.
  23. Yes, I have used it for all of my kids. It is just experiments with brief explanations. Add some living books, and it makes a good early elementary science curriculum. I actually have my set for sale as my youngest is now a middle schooler.
  24. OP, I feel exactly the same. I have been a mom for 26 years. I haven't worked for pay on a full time basis since then. (a couple of part time stints early on, but other than that, nothing) I have a degree in child development and I don't want to work in that field. I am burned out on all things relating to kids. I have no idea what I love to do so I can't even say I would like to go back to school. Neglected myself way too long so I don't know what I like anymore. How does one go about finding that out? And yes, I am homeschooling 2 again this coming year (6th and 8th graders) and my 10th grader will be at public school. I want to do some kind of work for pay.
