Emba
I forgot what I had on the menu tonight and started split peas soaking this morning for split pea soup tonight. Then I realized that was supposed to be for tomorrow night and I have some leftovers That need used up tonight. Will it hurt the split peas to soak until tomorrow evening? Arcadia
When I over soak my split peas the water had a fermented smell. So I would drain out the water later in your scenario.

Katy
I think it should be fine, but if you have time you might consider making it tonight & letting it sit in fridge until tomorrow, then bring back to a boil. Soups and stews always taste better the next day IME.
Tanaqui
Even if you're putting them in the fridge, change the water first. Though I agree that it makes just as much sense to make the soup now and reheat it tomorrow!
Rosie_0801
They're still fine to eat even with the fermented smell.
MEmama
Tonight, I’d just make the soup and save it for tomorrow. As an FYI next time, there’s no need to pre soak split peas for soup. They break down quickly enough.

I make my split pea soup in the crockpot and have never soaked the peas first.
