Condessa Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I have a bump on the back of my head, right where it meets my neck, on the left side. Three or four days ago I noticed that spot was tender, and the next day there was a bump like what you would expect as a goose egg from getting hit by something. It aches, and hurts more with pressure, but not a sharp pain. It has not improved since it first appeared a few days ago. I suspect it may have something to do with psoriasis on my scalp that I had run out of the medication for prior to this, and been slow to take care of in the flurry of taking care of my son’s medical needs. Have you ever heard of something like this? If I go to a general practitioner, are they going to send me on to some specialist that I could just save time by going to directly? Quote
PeterPan Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 (edited) Are you back on the medication? I get those on occasion if I go a few days without washing my hair. I think like you're saying it has to do with the skin and buildup. They usually clear, but I agree they're painful. How big are we talking here? Mine are usually 1" diameter and they just clear as I wash (massaging the area) and give it time. If you've been off the medication and are going back on, you could see if they clear. Not knowing psoriasis I would think if it doesn't clear within a few days of being back on or worsens I would go in. Edited January 17, 2021 by PeterPan Quote
Katy Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I’d call a dermatologist. It may be something with psoriasis or it may be some sort of cyst that will only grow until it gets drained. 1 Quote

But if you wait to call till you're desperate, then you still have another wait. Mine that have gone down have been *small*. If goose egg is several inches... Quote
Selkie Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 There are lymph nodes in that area, and the psoriasis might have caused one of them to become enlarged. 2 Quote
Condessa Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 I got the medication refill called in, but haven’t picked it up from the pharmacy yet. It’s about 2 inches in diameter. Quote
Starr Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Not your doctor but I would give it a very warm soak every couple of hours and see what happens. Quote
ktgrok Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I'd do warm compresses until you can talk to your doctor, and then call the doctor who treats your psoriasis. Could be an infected hair follicle, or just clogged follicle, or a lymph node. Concern is you may need antibiotics. Quote
