happyWImom
Okay, these forum's are totally addictive, and I could spend all day here, reading, posting, and feeling right at home. What is it all about? Why do we love it?:001_huh: Is it okay, or is it a form of escapism?
Jean in Newcastle
I spend a few minutes here off and on through out the day. Sometimes it is to do a quick search on a recipe someone mentioned, or to read "just one thread", or to update my to-do list on the 1-2-3 Accomplish social group. There are a couple of times when I do longer sessions. One is when I first wake up in the morning and I'm too fuzzy to do anything else around the house. And the other is at night when the kids are in bed. Edited December 2, 2008 by Jean in Newcastle

WTMCassandra
Well, I tend to dip in and out throughout the day. Like right now while the children are doing an exercise in LCII, Lesson 20 ; ).

I talk to the trees
I pop in and out through the day as well. I spend most of my time here on the general topics board, probably because I am satisfied with my curriculum choices, dd is an easy to teach child (for now, at least), and I enjoy the friendly, social chatter on this board! I think I enjoy it so much because there is always at least one post on page one that I read and think, "Hey! I was *just* thinking that very same thing!" It's a lovely, refreshing change from my IRL homeschool group, where if you don't agree with the group, you'd best just keep it to yourself. (Not that there aren't nice people in the group. I just learned early on that dissenting viewpoints are not welcome.) Many thanks to PHP and SWB for providing me with this much needed social outlet! -Robin

Jennifer
What is the 1-2-3 Accomplish social group? Is it open to anyone?? Thanks! Jennifer
Jean in Newcastle
What is the 1-2-3 Accomplish social group? Is it open to anyone??Thanks! Jennifer Yes, it is open to anyone. We post our goals for the day and mark them off as we reach them. It's not our whole to-do list (that would be too long!) but it is those things we have a hard time getting to. For me it is incredibly motivating to have posted my list "in public". I'm getting a lot more done around here!
Peela
Well its a lot easier to chat about homeschooling my kids, research homeschooling, make elaborate plans and problem solve with others.....than sit down to the tedious job of supervising, reading, teaching, marking work etc, with real live kids who resist, get sick, cant concentrate, would prefer to be playing, etc. I spend time here because my kids are fairly independent nowadays but I still need to be in the room most of the time. I learn a lot here and enjoy the socialising, but I try to be careful not to let it become addictive. I find the "new" format easier to not get addictive to, easier to skip without getting caught up in conversations I would rather not join. Rosie_0801
Goodness, my kids are only 20 months and - 2 months and I'm on here at least twice a day. I'm trying to pretend not to exist for the duration of this pregnancy, and it's rather nice having company while I do (or is it don't do?) that. It's nice when I can answer someone's question. Makes me feel I have actually done something useful at some point during the day. I'm not up to real life types of useful most of the time.
