Kassia
Dd is 17 and needs some dresses for the future - interviews, presentations, events, etc. She bought these dresses, but they are all sleeveless and she will need a sweater or cardigan or something for colder weather or a/c: she has this in a charcoal grey: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=144834022&CAWELAID=120299900001033509&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=59094339269&CATCI=pla-530814121871&tid=onpl000017&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIotv8q8Kt5AIVnB-tBh3QbAyxEAQYASABEgKFavD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content this in black: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=480889012&tid=onpl000029&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp5ODqMKt5AIVEr3sCh0I1wZBEAQYASABEgKUAfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content this in green (hunter pines) https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=505739#pdp-page-content She has this cardigan in black but that's all. https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-3502407/womens-apt-9-open-front-bolero-cardigan.jsp?color=Mineral Black&prdPV=2 Any suggestions for a sweater or cardigan that she can cover up with? Will the black one work for any of these? She's a minimalist who hates shopping and insists the black is fine. She has black flats and nice sandals, but what about in the winter - can she wear black tights with the flats with these dresses? I'm so clueless. Thanks for any help you can give me! And if anyone is still reading...any recommendations for underwear for a modest teen girl who wears a size 2 in jeans?
MercyA
I like to wear these cardigans over sleeveless dresses and they come in SO many colors: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073C9YSS2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just about any color would go with her black and gray dresses--if it were me, I might choose burgundy, olive, heather gray, or dark purple. If she doesn't like the style of this particular cardigan, there are lots of other good choices on Amazon. Her black cardigan would be fine over the green dress, as long as the sleeves aren't too tight over the flutter sleeves. almondbutterandjelly
Lands End carries cardigans in many colors. They are not cropped. They are waist-ish length. They are not trendy in the slightest, but good for work. If she wants trendy, I would go to Plato's Closet and cull through their cardigans. I think the black one would work for the black and gray dresses, but not the green. Ivory, rust, or some other color for the green. And a nice pink or red might be more fun with the black and gray dresses. If you want to order something online, American Eagle seems to be very trendy right now, and they have many cardigans: https://www.ae.com/us/en/c/women/sweaters-cardigans/cardigans/cat360013?pagetype=plp For modest undies, my dd likes jockey, smallest size, or Hanna Andersson (largest girls size). For top "undies," Victoria Secret https://www.victoriassecret.com/vs/bras/lounge-and-wireless/the-t-shirt-wireless-bra-6a07a3e7-5037-49d6-8170-b478a2edaa2f?genericId=11158477&choice=94V9&stackId=9b269bc5-363e-477a-99a2-00309a91e19a&filter=color%3AOrange%2Ccolor%3ARed%2Ccolor%3AYellow&brand=vs or Lily of France https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C981PLY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1
Bootsie
I wide scarf can be used in the summer to cover bare arms if she goes into an area with AC and is cool. In cooler time periods it can be worn with a black cardigan to add some color and variation.
bolt.
I'm thinking you might be feeling a bit old-fashioned... or chilly. (Unless her workplace have a dress code or something?) Having one sweater on the back of her chair should be more than enough if the AC is high. Black is ideal. How cold is your winter? She might well feel fine for a short walk (if she parks close to her destination). If she takes public transit or otherwise has a long walk, she may like to receive a pair of warm tights/leggings and/or dressy boots for Christmas. (Black or grey.) Another thing she might like is a few cheap necklaces to dress up the plain necklines.
BusyMom5
Candies brand in the Jrs dept at Lohls has some cute blazers that my teens like. If you are not a dresses only family, I'd suggest looking for separates rather than dresses. Pants in black and charcoal, and then tops and blazers from Kohls or similar. She is very modest and conservative (I'm not!) and we're both always freezing. 🙂 Our winters here are very cold but she plans on going to college in TX. Great idea about the necklines - I don't accessorize and wouldn't have thought about that. 5 minutes ago, BusyMom5 said: Candies brand in the Jrs dept at Lohls has some cute blazers that my teens like. I prefer separates, too, and I love shopping at Kohls. I'll talk to her about that - she might prefer pants over dresses to keep her legs covered and warm. prairiewindmomma
Warm tights for school in TX? Maybe if she will be in Dallas, but not in Houston or SA.

BusyMom5
For boots maybe dressy combat boots? The not chunky ones. My DD has some that look cute with nicer clothes. Otherwise just flats.

I'm really clueless... I suggest waiting to see if she needs them before shopping. I'm Canadian, so my store recommendations would be worthless, but all the women I know manage to find flat or near-flat practical-but-nice boots for our snowy winters. They range from ankle boots to quite tall, and some women do manage a chunky heel fairly well if the sole has good traction. Usually a slim look and a semi-pointy toe are good features. (Some women just wear snow boots and keep 'indoor shoes' at their offices -- like schoolkids do.) I imagine if that's what people are wearing, then it will become fairly obvious how to buy them locally. catz
We live in the upper midwest. Girls/women regularly wear skirts or dresses with fleece lined leggings and cute boots in the winter when they need to dress up. I just caught the other posts about this. I wore something like this last winter, my 15 year old daughter has something somewhat similar too. https://www.alegriashoeshop.com/Alegria-Stevee-Roacknrolla-p/ste-598.htm 1

A sweater that is more tailored or jacket that is shorter would work well the dresses. I second Kohls. My dd bought a great blazer.
prairiewindmomma
She isn’t going to need to dress much for warmth....it doesn’t even snow some years. Average snowfall is 1” in Dallas. It’s usually in the 50s and 60s through winter.
prairiewindmomma
Tights and flats will work. Jewelry is big in TX. Even if she is a minimalist, a pair of (fake) diamond studs and a couple of necklaces, and lipstick and mascara would serve her well. She may never come home! 🙂 10 minutes ago, prairiewindmomma said: Tights and flats will work. Jewelry is big in TX.
