Blessedfamily
I thought that I had put all of the refrigerated groceries away this morning at 8am or so. I just picked up a bag of jar food and found a 7 oz package of shredded cheddar cheese (Organic but pasteurized) that I cost me 4 bucks. Shall I trash it? I found it at 4:30 p.m.
Ohio12
I think it is totally fine! Seriously. If it starts to grow something, then not, but I think no problem.
joannqn
I'd think hard cheese like that is fine as long as it isn't growing.
WTMindy
I'd eat it.
Blessedfamily
I'm just nervouse because my kids are small and I don't want them to get a case of the "da doo run run run, da doo run run." :001_huh:
emeraldjoy
Some people perfer "aged" cheese. Seriously though, it will do not harm; even if it is growing something. emerald
Nakia
We would totally eat it!
Ria
I'd eat it even if it had been sitting out 24 hours, maybe longer. If there's no mold, eat it. If there is mold, cut it off and still eat it. Ria (who simply cannot stand to waste food)
newlifemom
It is shredded cheese. I might not drink milk left out that long and wouldn't be able to eat ice cream left out that long (haha), but it's cheese. Isn't that how it is made?:D Pam Who gets queasy at just about anything, but would still eat this.
Carol in Cal.
It might mold a little faster than normal, though. So you need to use it within the next week or so, I would imagine.

LaxMom
Isn't that how it is made?:D Yep. You let milk sit at room temp and inoculate it with bacteria specific to the cheese you're making. Cheese is already "bad", it's just not pathogenic bacteria that makes it that way. The cheese is fine. Even if it's hard and greasy, it still won't make you sick - it just won't be delicious that way.
Doran
Hard cheeses (cheddar) are fine for several days when left unrefrigerated in cool climates.
