IATeachingMom
I'm looking for a self paced math class for my 8th grader this summer. He will be headed into prealgebra. I came across giftedandtalented.com but have not been able to find reviews. I do not want to do a CD based program like TT and it must include some video/visual explanation (teaching) of the material. My son hates reading. Thoughts? Peaceseeker
Derek Owens. It is pricey but meets your requirements and is working well here.
OneStepAtATime
You might look at CTC math, usually available at a discounted rate through Homeschool Buyer's Co-op, but I would probably use it as a reinforcer, not as the main program. Still, it provides a student access to all math from kindergarten level through Calculus and generates new problems every time. The student can print out a one page explanation of the video lessons for future reference and can see the problems, including the ones he missed and WHY he missed them and can print that out, too, for additional review. If he hit a snag he could keep practicing whatever areas are giving him trouble and move up and down in level to solidify any gaps/confusion because the system keeps generating new problems. I agree, though, that Derek Owens might work well. I have not used DO but have read many, many positive reviews.
3girls4me
My oldest is signed up for prealgebra with Derek Owens for next year. Can't vouch yet for it but it has glowing reviews!
IATeachingMom
I just looked at Derek Owens! It might be an option. Thank you for mentioning it!
SebastianCat
Mr. D. Math has a curriculum-only option (no live online class, no co-op class) with recorded video instruction, online curriculum, online grading, and help sessions each week (3x per week during the typical academic year, but 1x per week during the summer). If you chose the curriculum-only option, he could work at his own pace. The live online class and co-op classes run during the academic year (August-May) and the teacher assigns work each week.

fourisenough
Derek Owens, definitely!
matrips
Mr D math. Does a great job explaining things and you see him as the teacher, not just writing on a board, which I like. You can do the self paced option which has all his videos available and worksheets, tests etc

SanDiegoMom
AskDrCallahan has Jacobs Algebra either available with DVD to purchase or option to stream per month (9 dollars). No grading, just videos with a live person teaching.
gstharr
Thinkwell's pre-alg is excellent, and cheap.
