jpinAL
Hi All Has anyone's college age kids visited Italy solo? DS is headed there in August. Any advice would be appreciated. He'd like budget travel tips and maybe a hostel recommendation. He's a history major and interested is museums. Thank you Susan
FriedClams
We stayed at the Best Western near the train station. I booked on bookings dot com. It was reasonably priced for the city and excellent - clean, safe, easy walk to the train. Highly recommend it, but is higher than a hostel.
lmrich
I had planned a trip that involved staying in convents. Several in Rome offer room and board for a great price. We did not go on that trip, but I loved reading about the convent stays.
PrincessMommy
We had great luck using hostels when we went as a family of 8 to Italy (including Rome). It's been over 10yrs though, so my information would be out of date. The hostel was friendly and clean and very hip. Lots of young travelers and us. LOL
MamaBearTeacher
I stayed in a hostel near the Vatican about 25 years ago. I had to share the room and bathroom but I made friends with the other travellers and it was cheap, safe and in a good location. I think I found it in the lonely planet guidebook.
Momling
We *loved* staying at the Beehive hotel (luxury hostel?) near the train station. My daughter and I took a private room, but there were hostel rooms too. It was cool, safe, convenient to the train station, friendly, and had a great café. http://www.the-beehive.com/
MotherGoose
Look at Airbnb or similar and proximity to transportation. Misread as hotels not hostels sorry. Edited February 2, 2017 by MotherGoose

*LC
My oldest stayed here last year and said it was fine. She said she wasn't sure she would go out alone late at night in the area. http://www.legendshostel.com/index.php
J-rap
http://www.the-beehive.com My kids loved that one; very nice, safe, and convenient to the train. There are definitely cheaper ones though.
