RioSamba
PTL for the wonderful news so far. Just prayed for recovery.
J-rap
I will continue to pray for her. The fact that she can write is really great news. It means her brain still has the ability to organize her thoughts into language. I'm quite sure she'll be speaking again too. The brain has an amazing ability to heal and find new paths as well.
MercyA
Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers, everyone! Here is a great update from today: [she] has been stable and mostly calm for the last few days. They changed her tracheostomy to a smaller size, and she has been doing really well with that. She has started doing some things with the hospital's therapists; it is great to see each little step of progress. Please pray that she will learn to swallow, as this has not happened successfully yet. She is keeping her polite and sweet spirit; she keeps trying to thank the nurses and doctors and is always smiling. Please keep our sweet girl in your prayers!

MercyA
Answered prayer! Update from today, Oct. 26: Good news for today: [she] passed her "Swallow Test" yesterday, so she was able to eat her first meal last night. 😀 They took out her peg feeding tube this morning! She is really happy to be eating real food again; it is a great, big step for her. Thanks for praying for [her], as she has a long, hard road of recovery therapy ahead.

MercyA
Here is an update from today, from her dad: "Thank you so much for your prayers for us. I would like to send this picture of [--] ...one month later! Praise the Lord!...I can't seem to find a picture of [--] with stitches all over her face and hooked up to six or eight drug and sedative pumps, breathing machine, heart monitors, brain pressure monitor, feeding tube, and all sorts of needles stuck into her body. She has come an amazingly long way. We will be discharged from [rehabilitation hospital] on Monday morning, and will begin outpatient occupational and speech therapy several days a week from Monday onwards." WTM friends, I wish you could see the photo. She is standing with her mother and not only looks well and happy, but glowing. :) Another update from several days ago: Thanks for your continued prayers for [--]! She has gotten settled at the rehabilitation center and is working hard towards recovery. They are doing speech therapy, problem solving exercises, daily living exercises, and continued occupational and physical therapy. The big news from today is that she was able to swallow clear liquids meaning that now there is no more restriction whatsoever on her diet! She is really happy about that! We are so so thankful that she is making good progress but know that she still has a long way to go. Please pray for her energy as the exercises are very tiring for her each day but are so essential towards her healing! Because she is so easily tired, the doctors are still hoping we keep the visitors to a minimum at this time. Thank you- each of you- so much for your prayers and support for [--] and our family! We are truly so blessed and so thankful! If anyone would like a link to the public Facebook page about her recovery, I would be happy to send it in a PM. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers!

MercyA
I received an update yesterday from this young woman's father and wanted to share it with all of you. Thank you so, so much for your prayers and good thoughts!!! "Thanks for praying for ----. When we think about how close to death she was on October 5, and how each tiny step of recovery was another miracle and blessing all through October, November, and December, we have so much to thank God for. At first we didn't know if she would move or walk again, but last week she was rock climbing (indoors with safety equipment!) with her cousin. At first we didn't know if she would be able to talk again, but she is talking, singing to her own accompaniment on the piano, laughing, and writing in her journal. At first we didn't know if she would ever be able to draw again, but she is now creating art with the same creativity and skill as before. She is living proof that God is still in the business of doing miracles. Even though there is so much to rejoice about, there is still a lot to pray about too. Her doctors told us, 'Recovery with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a marathon, not a sprint.' We are discovering that. She is doing outpatient therapy 2 days per week in ---, and will also be attempting to take one or two classes at --- University, to see how she can handle it. She will be taking a comprehensive three hour test next week, to see if she is able to resume driving. Thanks again for your prayers."
