Guest
Between CLE 1 and Math U See Alpha, which one would you choose for first grade?
sweetpea3829
I personally would not choose MUS unless there was a math-related LD and the student needed a very incremental nuts and bolts math. This actually describes DD, which is why I use it with her. That said, I supplement as much as she is capable of learning, if that makes sense. So she's in Delta level and I'm also using Process Skills, CWP, and Math Mammoth...all at first grade level, to fill the gaps MUS leaves. So of I had to choose between those two, it would have to be CLE.
HomeAgain
We liked MUS. It worked well for my oldest in helping him visualize mathematics. But we started with Gamma. When I had a chance to snag Alpha, I did, but never used it. We ended up with MEP and fell in love. I gave away our MUS set recently except for Gamma, through Pre-Algebra, because the concepts are taught very well in them. importswim
I am about to finish CLE 1 with my 1st grader and I absolutely love it. It's amazing the growth that I've seen in math this year, so I would choose that one! No experience with MUS.
Misha
We're on our third year of CLE math and we absolutely love it. My girls went through a number of programs and this one works the best for us. I've read wonderful things about MEP too.
ktgrok
CLE.
momtofive
I've used both at that level, and our hands down favorite is CLE. CLE met our needs and gave my kids a really great foundation to build upon. It was a gentle, but thorough start. And our kids scored really well after using CLE. ;)
OneStepAtATime
CLE. Get the CLE flashcards. They have a special system that is very well done.
Mommy to monkeys
CLE. CLE. CLE. Without question.
OneStepAtATime
CLE is great but I also highly encourage you to play mathy games, do a lot of hands on stuff like playing store and cooking (measurement), etc.
momofabcd
CLE hands down. We are in our third year with CLE and they both have a really good understanding of math.
TracyP
CLE without question. I have also used MUS, MM, SM, and MEP at the first grade level - geez, that is almost embarrassing... I am less enthusiastic with CLE in older grades (though I still like it) but I absolutely adore CLE for first grade.
OneStepAtATime
CLE for 1st, 2nd, 3rd then maybe pair it with Beast Academy during third, fourth, fifth. Great conceptual material to tie in with the CLE scope/sequence and spiral. Edited March 31, 2016 by OneStepAtATime
Kiara.I
Are there any other options to choose from? I probably wouldn't pick either one... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
amyc78
We've done both and liked both. I really wish I could figure out a way to combine the two without it being overkill. As of right now, I am planning to do CLE during the school year and MUS as a summer supplement...
