Unexpected holiday Activities

We went kayaking today.  It's 38 degrees but the lake is full and clear.  We are having an unseasonably warm December with record breaking temps almost every day.  Thinking about a longer kayaking excursion tomorrow.  Our water usage stamps expire on the 31st so I figure use 'em while we can.

Any unusual activities for you?

Well, our Christmas Eve tradition is to go rock climbing, does that count? This year I say outside at the crag calming the baby in a tank top, slathering sun screen on his baby skin so he wouldn't burn! Very strange..

I gave hubby new volumes and campus rungs for our garage climbing wall/cave so he and dd spent the morning rearranging our wall!

Ours was unusual because of what we DIDN'T do. We didn't have any lunch or dinner. Kids are grown so they slept in until almost 8 and by the time we opened gifts, it was 9. So breakfast wasn't ready until 10. We ate breakfast, called extended family, cleaned up or mess...hung out, and since we go to the movies on Christmas, we realized we just weren't hungry enough to cook a meal.  So at 4 we headed out to see Star Wars and had popcorn and soda. Came home and had pie at 8 pm and called it a day.

It seems crazy but it worked perfectly for us. Schnitzel and Spaetzle for dinner tomorrow!

For us it was that we didn't set the gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve. We have 2 new-to-us kitties and were worried they'd tear into all the ribbons and gift bags. So we decided just to put everything out on Christmas morning. The second irregularity--dd was Santa's helper for the first time. She filled 3 of 5 stockings and ended up setting out most of the gifts.

We had hoped to go to Star Wars today but the two shows that would have worked for us had sold out early. Oh well, we stayed home and stayed dry instead.
