kirstenhill
DD11 is looking for ideas for her Christmas list for games that can be enjoyed by one person alone. They could be board games or "logic puzzle" type games. She has learned a few varieties of solitaire played with regular playing cards, and is looking for something different (though other types of card games might be interesting). She doesn't really care for jigsaw puzzles. We already put a rubik's cube and the game Rush Hour on her list. Any other ideas for her? Tanaqui
You can play the game Set alone, or with other people, which makes it a very good choice.
Amira
So, I'm probably outing myself as a weirdo, but I play lots of multiplayer games on my own and have since I was your dd's age. Card games don't work as well but lots of board games can be played on your own.
MyThreeSons
How about a book detailing rules of Solitaire card games? Or a subscription to one of the Dell puzzle magazines? I personally love the Math and Logic Puzzles book. Check out the puzzles sections of Barnes and Noble -- both the puzzle books section and the section where they have board games and such.
Kareni
I agree with SET. Bananagrams can also be fun when played alone. Consider getting her a book of Jumbles and/or cryptograms. For example, Jumble® Getaway: Your Ticket to a Paradise of Puzzles! (Jumbles®) or Sit & Solve® Fun & Easy Cryptograms (Sit & Solve® Series) Regards, Kareni
Cinder
Perhaps one of the Hanayama puzzles? Ds2 says start with level 4 for any real challenge. We got him this one last year. He hasn't solved it yet but I did! :p
Kareni
This old list (three pages long) titled The best solitary playable game has some intriguing games listed such as Ricochet Robots and Al Cabohne. Also, Bananagrams has some puzzle books such as Banana-Grams! The Official Book, 575 Appealing Word Challenges That Will Drive You Bananas! 10-Minute Bananagrams! Bananagrams: The On-the-Go Edition: 575 All New Word Games Likewise, there are Scrabble books: SCRABBLEâ„¢ Puzzles Volume 1 Regards, Kareni
school17777
Rush Hour and a bunch of other games like that made by the same company.
6packofun
Rush Hour and a bunch of other games like that made by the same company. Yes, their Laser Maze game is pretty fun and they have one called Gravity Maze (stacking blocks, I think) that looks neat, too! http://www.amazon.com/Think-Fun-1004-Laser-Logic/dp/B00B5OL28Y
Kareni
Clearly I can't keep away from your post! I did some more online searching and found this game which looks like fun and was designed for solo play ~ Friday I read about the game in this article: Top Ten Games by Player Count by Tony Mastrangeli Regards, Kareni
TrixieB
Gravity Maze is fun. So is PathWords. And I'll add my "yes" vote to the Rush Hour camp. It has additional card decks available too.
Rockhopper
Not a board game, but one of my favorite leisure-time alone activities: any of the Greatest Dot-to-Dot books by Kavalitis. Great to color in after the dot-to-dot is complete, too, if she enjoys coloring.
whitestavern
Perplexus is very fun/frustrating lol.
Farrar
Sometimes it's fun to play the cooperative games by yourself. Just play as if you're several people. So things like Forbidden Island/Desert (Desert is a better choice for older kids) and Pandemic.
shawthorne44
For logic puzzles, I've really enjoyed Nikoli.com. They have 10 samples of each type of game they publish. Some of them I really liked and then bought a book of those puzzles.

I'm going to try your suggestion.

When ds2 was younger he used to play Monopoly against himself. When he was done playing he'd announce happily, "I won!"
