Ethel Mertz
So sorry. Those are so very painful. Do you know about Cystex Plus? It's OTC and it numbs your urethra so that you are not in so much pain when you pee.
Bluegoat
Mine always seem to wait for the worst times as well. I had one this summer that arrived on a Sunday when the Monday was also a holiday. I was also on vacation in another province, so I had to pay for the appointment at the rather nasty walk-in clinic.
Slache
Make him get some uristat too if he can. It will make you feel better until the meds work. And maybe some candy corn.
ktgrok
Definitely get the stuff to numb it up, the antibiotics will take a day or so to work. And yes, always at night. The worst was when I got one while camping and it was a several minute walk to the bathrooms. I walked that route about 7 times that night. In the dark, with bugs and spiders and who knows what.

alisoncooks
Yes! The one I've had was an all-nighter. And my 7-yr old had one a few months ago and it kicked in right at bedtime. Poor kid slept on the potty that night (leaning on a folding table).
RootAnn
I've only had two UTIs in my life. I can't type the language that I would like to use to describe them. The last one hit with a force (fever, chills, nausea, massive groin pain that wouldn't let up - like contractions except it didn't ever relax) on a Friday right before lunch. My OB/GYN office never called back, but heaven-sent DH came home early from work, hauled me to the local doc right before they closed for the weekend, and took care of me until I was recognizable again. I hope you are feeling better soon!
