daijobu
I just happened to glance at my homeschooling bookshelf, and saw no fewer than 3 ...for Dummies books. And I know there are more elsewhere in the house. I'm not exactly proud of this curriculum choice, but then again, they are pretty efficient books for teaching and learning.
Gil
I'm very big on "Do What Works" and use whats "Doable". Don't judge a book by its cover, as the old adage goes. Honestly we have a few of those Dummies books as well as a few Complete Idiots guides and I have never judged them by their cover, but by their content.
daijobu
Don't judge a book by its cover Yes, I can be very judge-y, lol! That yellow and black does not blend in well.
katilac
I wouldn't mind using them, but my kids are mortally offended at the titles.
daijobu
I wouldn't mind using them, but my kids are mortally offended at the titles. True. When they first started appearing in my home, I tried to make clear to them that this did not mean I thought they were dummies. Marketing! Rosie_0801
I just received one in the post yesterday. 'Indigenous Australia for Dummies.' I'm very excited. I also have 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Judaism' tucked away somewhere. I bought that for one of my reading challenges this year.
HelenNotOfTroy
My DH likes to use them for himself. We wouldn't hesitate to have our son read them if he wanted an overview of a new topic when he is older.
ScoutTN
I have used the Classical Music one to help structure our music appreciation and composer studies.
kateingr
I love the Dummies books when I'm bend new to a topic. They provide such an easy-to-read, clear overview, although I sometimes get annoyed when they have cutesy features. I like the classical music one, too, and I'm currently reading "publishing your ebook for dummies." So much more helpful to have it all in one place, rather than googling everything's!

Jean in Newcastle
We used them in the middle school years the most. I thought they were a good fit for that age / ability level.
kbutton
Never thought of it for homeschool. I've used one or two (as well as the Everything You Need to Know about...) for personal interest, and my husband is using one right now.
daijobu
We use them quite a bit for technical subjects. Right now I have Arduino Projects for Dummies, R for Dummies, and Raspberry Pi for Dummies, and I'm sure I have many more.
