mum
Ds 18 needs a suit, previous ones from Penneys have never looked a great fit. Thing is, I don't know if he's done growing and he's in process of bulking up. He needs it within the week for an important event. I need it to be good quality at good price. Any suggestions? Jean in Newcastle
Thrift stores can have some very nice suits at a low cost. But Men's Wearhouse is nice for new.
Amy in NH
I've found that, whether you get one at consignment or Men's Warehouse, they always need to be tweaked a bit. Too bad you didn't know ahead of time so you could find a good deal and still have time for the tailor!
gardenmom5
I bought my son's suits at brooks brothers off-price store. not quite the same quality as the regular store, cost much less - still my "really likes nice clothes" ds really liked it. (his favorite he tried on - which i did NOT buy, was a $1500 suit from nordstrom.) I do like the penny's stafford oxford cloth wrinkle free executive shirts. (no button collar.) PrairieSong
We just bought suits at Men's Warehouse for our boys to wear to dd's wedding. They will tailor them for you. It does cost extra but we got the suits on sale.
tshirtyogapantmama
Sears has worked for my boys. My husband has found several at Macy's too.
Aiden
If there's an outlet mall near you, see if there's a Haggar outlet. They sell nice suits at good prices.
DawnM
I second the thrift store. We have had very good luck there, not for DH, he needs one tailored to fit well for his more executive job, but for our boys, it has been great. I can do minor sewing adjustments. They haven't interviewed for anything yet, but for things like funerals and weddings, the thrift store has been great.
redsquirrel
If you buy at a thrift store, make sure that the suit isn't hopelessly out of date. If the pants are pleated or the shoulders are big or the back is not vented etc then pass it up. Little things like that will stand out. That said, you can find some nice suits at a thrift store that are not 20 years old. My friend has suggested Kohls but I haven't ever looked there. My dh isn't convinced their stuff is any good, but YMMV. My BIL, who has to wear a nice suit to work every day likes Men's Warehouse. He wasn't expecting it to be very nice, was used to spending a lot more on suits, but his wife convinced him to look and he liked it. He is prob buying at the upper end of their stuff though. We got a nice suit for DH via Land's End. I did have to do a bit of measuring though, not a big deal. And he has a lot of clothes from them so we could just look at the sizes of what he already had and that was a big help. We got a suit jacket and two pairs of pants for a very reasonable price. I think in February they often have a big sale. I know we got it during a sale in the winter/early spring
