Night Elf
I need to half a recipe that calls for 1 egg. Do I just beat it and then pour out some? I don't bake well. What happens if I have too little or too much egg?
SparklyUnicorn
What is it for?
Tanaqui
You can use a few different methods. First, you can substitute a medium egg for a large one. Second, you can measure the volume of one beaten egg, then pour out half. Third, you can add the egg as is and slightly reduce the other liquid ingredients. That is the method I generally use. J-rap
I would beat the egg in a separate container, and just add half of it.
SparklyUnicorn
I'd probably just use the whole thing. I don't think it will make a huge difference.
catz
I'd crack it, scramble a bit, eyeball half of it into the mix and then test for consistency. Add more if the mix seems too dry.
maize
I would probably just use the whole egg, but then I rarely follow a recipe exactly. The BEST solution IMO would be for you to bake an entire batch of cookies and give half of them to me; see how neatly that solves the egg dilemma? Miss Tick
I would crack it into a separate bowl, beat it a bit with a fork, eyeball half, then watch in surprise as it all slides in en masse, mutter some $.25 words and then proceed in denial, making half the recipe with ask the egg. Melissa in Australia
I would use the whole lot. I regularly add an extra egg to recipes
