cottonmama
Around Halloween we went to a catered event and brought home an unopened gallon of sweet tea from the catering service. It's never been opened, still in the gallon jug (with just a lid, no seal). My dh thinks we should serve this on Saturday when we have company, but I feel like it's too old. What says the Hive? AK_Mom4
Open it and smell it. Taste a bit. If it's gone to the Dark Side, it should be fairly obvious I think.
Mrs Mungo
I don't know that it would "go bad" that soon in the sense of it being dangerous, but tea tends to get bitter after a while.
Catwoman
I would throw it away. I wouldn't feel comfortable serving it to anyone. If your dh is a risktaker, let him drink it. :)
Reflections
I've had sweet tea last in the fridge for ages and I've had sweet tea left out on the table in a pitcher develop mold in two days. IMO, tea is not that expensive. Throw it out.
justasque
I wouldn't serve guests anything that was the least bit iffy. Your dh, on the other hand, is an adult who can make his own choices.
itsheresomewhere
Sweet tea is cheap, food poisoning is not. I would throw it out.
Southern Ivy
Old tea is nasty. Just buy some new tea - or make some.
Tap
Was it brewed by the caterer or was it purchased at a store? If it was available for sale, it should have an expiration date on the jug. If no expiration date, then toss and brew some more.
Word Nerd
Gross! Dump it.
zoobie
Dump it! It's not a pasteurized product. Tea gets funky. You can get food poisoning from iced tea. So not worth it!
Southern Ivy
You can get food poisoning from iced tea. I never knew this! I guess it's a down-side to growing up Southern. No pitcher of tea ever made it past the 1st day in our house. (Plus, my dad hated "old" tea, so we had a new pitcher every evening for dinner.) momto10blessings
I'd toss it and make my own.
