DragonFaerie
Do you read all of your DC's literature selections? If not, how do you evaluate their work/writing? I have EIL for DD to use next fall, and while I have read some of the selections, it was a LONG time ago. And there are quite a few that I've never read. But I'm not sure I have the time to read a complete high school literature course in addition to my own graduate studies. This may be just a whine, but I wanted to see how others handle it. vettechmomof2
I do so it is fresh in my mind as well. I have turned to audio books for some and other than that I am a fast reader who sleeps very little :(
regentrude
I read all the "assigned" selections we discuss and for which my kids write essays. But I do not read all DD reads; that would be impossible since she is an extremely fast reader and I have a job.
rdj2027
I read as much as I can for my children's assigned reading for discussion but I have four children who range from 5th through 12th grade. There is only so much I can do.
DragonFaerie
Yeah, I was afraid y'all would say that. Oddly enough, I'm not a fan of "the classics" (yes, I'm a master's degree student in literature; I know, I know) which makes it that much more of a pain. The things we do to educate our children... Kareni
The only high school year in which I oversaw my daughter's English class was ninth grade. (She took out of the home classes after that.) That year I did read all of her literature selections. Regards, Kareni
lewelma
Yes, I read all the literature we will discuss. I actually listen to most of it while doing dishes and laundry. :001_smile: Ruth in NZ
EndOfOrdinary
I read it all and often find myself actively doing research so that I can be aware of various literary techniques or references to point out. I was a STEM major and my son is all about Humanities.
Sunshine State Sue
Like Kareni, ds has been outsourced since 10th grade. For 9th grade, I pre-read everything (and more because I decided against some of the books after pre-reading) during the summer. We worked on literature related to American History. If it makes you feel any better, I am sure I can rustle up some of my whines on the high school board about the books. Gosh. My attempt at pre-reading American History related literature... Till We Have Faces Dang. Can't find the whine about Dante's Inferno. P.S. I work 30hrs/wk from home... Sheesh. A master's degree in literature? Mine is in Industrial Engineering. You get no sympathy from me. :smash:
JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
So far yes, I have been reading all assigned literature books alongside my oldest two. It is rather fun and I'm not studying for my own classes so...
angela in ohio
I read everything, except that I gave myself a few "passes" over the years for books I just couldn't get through. I read the Cliff Notes and Spark Notes for them instead. :D

I love my child too much to make her read Moby Dick.
