Mommamia
Anyone know where to find one of these? Y'know the kind where the books face forward. Possibly attaches to the wall. TIA
Mommamia
I'm searching for a bookcase that allows the books to face with the covers showing. Could be one that attaches to the wall. Thanks for any help.
Gretchen in NJ
Pottery Barn Kids used to have one. They still might.
Mrs Mungo
I'm searching for a bookcase that allows the books to face with the covers showing. Could be one that attaches to the wall. Thanks for any help. A little while back a link was posted where someone had used rain gutters and attached them directly to the wall to place books in. It looked great and it would be a relatively cheap, easy solution. Ah, here we go: http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/oliver.html http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=10756

EKS
I found ours at a preschool supply store. I think googling "book rack" might work.
LlamaMama
The one we have is a display model from Pottery Barn Kids. I was able to get it deeply discounted. Land of Nod also carries a similar model.
kls126s
Have you thought about rain gutter shelves? They are made from plastic rain gutters, so definitely not as nice looking as a good wooden bookshelf, but they do keep books facing out. Here's a picture of them. Here's some instructions for making your own.

Crafty Mathy Mom
If you're the handy type, you could build some rain gutter shelves. Here's an article on how to do it. http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/oliver.html My daughter has some in her room, but she keeps her stuffed animals in them instead of books. It's an afternoon project and relatively cheap.
H.S. Burrow
Here's a link to discount school supply's website. http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?category=1135&at=5 We have one that we rescued from where the public school dumped it. It had 2 staples in it and the plastic edge - that is removable! - was broken in one place.

I posted that same pic link in the other thread on this. :tongue_smilie: Yes - I saw that after I posted mine and then scrolled down and saw the other thread. Teach me to post without skimming everything that's going on at once. (Also that we both use google well. :))

woolybear
Oh my, I was going to mention the rain gutter shelves too! Great minds think alike, lol! I got lucky and got one of these bookshelves at Goodwill. Unfortunately, the pockets are a bit deep and many of thebooks drop too low. I need to put something in there to raise it up. Anyway, it really is helpful, especially for those that can't read yet and therefore can't read the title off the spine. Even older kids are more inspired to pick up books when they can see the cover.
Annie Laurie
We have rain gutter bookshelves, so another vote for those. They're easy to install and inexpensive, we've had ours for two years and they have encouraged so much reading here- I put new books on them and they're always quickly taken down for a read, and when playmates come over sometimes I find them sitting in the play room/school room reading. You can cut them to any size if you have a shorter wall. Pic (I know I have a better one somewhere but can't find it):

Mommamia
For some reason whenever I try to post a question it does not show it as posted.....so then I hit post again and end up double posting. I guess I'm impatient. So, sorry about the double post! Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Suzannah
I don't know whether it's already been mentioned, but Amazon has some "sling bookshelves" for various prices that are similar to the one at Pottery Barn. http://www.amazon.com/Tot-Tutors-Deluxe-Travel-Pocket/dp/B000S14UQG/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I31E3JF15ERACG&colid=1AYWXI1I0NAZL http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-14221-Sling-Bookshelf/dp/B0018MCVH4/ref=pd_cp_ba_2?pf_rd_p=413863701&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000S14UQG&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1WNQJH4KEY3421DSW5GR

Thanks for the pic. Glad it was helpful! My kids love arranging the books and changing them out every now and then. Nestof3
My 7 yr old spotted that one at Half Price Books a couple of years ago, he loves maps and geography. Same with mine. I found my copy from Great Britain off Ebay. My 8 year old draws maps of most of the books he reads. I plan to buy him a poster of the Wizard of Oz lands soon. He will love it. He has been drawing his own for months.
