Do your children make gifts for each other?  If so, what are some things that have been made?  I have dd13, ds 11 and ds9...in our past, the boys have made something for their sister and our daughter has made something for the boys.  Which I think is kind of neat...but I am open to all sorts of possibilities.

My daughter has made pot holders as gifts, not so much for siblings though.  This year she is making perler bead creations, for her brother and other people.  We also make borax crystal ornaments in different shapes.  They are super easy, pretty, and fairly durable.  We've dropped them on hard floor without breaking.

My kids are a little bit older... but over the years they have made:

personalized cross stitched bookmarks

knitted Hogwarts house scarves

an original and illustrated story based on "How to Train Your Dragon"

a lego clock

a different clock made with scrapbook paper

original themed calendars (Redwall, Korra.... etc)

beaded earrings

marshmallow shooters

My boys this year are going to make things for each other. Oldest DS will make a secret treasure box out of an old hardback book for middle DS. The two older ones will felt gnomes for the 2 year old. Not sure yet what middle DS (7) will make for older DS.

Do you have a link for the borax ornaments? I remember my Mom making them with us when we were kids. I bet that would be something we could do if I have all of the supplies around the house.

I found this:

http://utah.todaysmama.com/2010/12/06/snowflake-ornaments/

Does that look about right?

That looks pretty close.  Here is the link that I used.  The measurements are a little different, but the results look the same!  I think it is pretty forgiving.

A couple notes - if you use colored pipe cleaners, the shape you make it into will look like the color underneath.  We made Shamrocks with green pipe cleaners initially (not for Christmas of course!) and they look green.  You can also dye the water and use white.

You can bend the pipe cleaners into all different shapes, snowflakes, stars, snowmen, Christmas trees, candy canes, etc.

The crystals will grow up the string holding them in the water so make sure you keep it close to the top so you don't end up with a huge "stem" on your ornament.  We cut off the excess from the string and then tie with a pretty ribbon for hanging.

Oh, and make sure your ornament doesn't touch the bottom or sides of the container!  It will stick to the container :)

Great link! I'm glad I asked. I was thinking about the whole "stem" issue. I'm glad to see that you confirmed my thoughts on using a string to hold it and then a nice ribbon or whatever after they are done. Thanks for all the tips! Just what I needed.

I am having the boys do this for each other this year.

Here are some ideas I plan to throw out to different ones (not the same ideas so they don't know what the other is doing.)

1.  Gum ball/Jelly Bean dispenser:

2.  Laminated bookmarks with drawings made by them.

3.  Mason Jar piggy banks

4. Homemade Pixie Sticks

5.  Wooden box unfinished to finish to keep keepsakes in (to use for Scout awards, etc....)

I am trying to get even more ideas, but these I think my kids would like.
