HollyDay
Dd wants to do an Equine Science study. I have no idea what that would involve besides riding lessons. Are there any books on the subject that would make a high school credit??
Stacia
4-H has some curriculum options: http://www.4-h.org/resource-library/curriculum/4-h-horse/ (We never used them, so I don't know what they're like.) I think you can also do an equine 4-H program along w/ riding lessons, etc....
Corraleno
There's a short course on Equine Nutrition coming up on Coursera this spring. You can also search on Amazon for cheap copies of used Equine Science textbooks (usually you can find older editions for a few dollars each). If you order a few, then your DD can decide which one to use. Jackie
3andme
Coursera has a new course offering: The Horse Course - Introduction to Care and Management.
Chrysalis Academy
Coursera has a new course offering: The Horse Course - Introduction to Care and Management. Shannon is doing this course. She finds it excellent. As corraleno said, there is another Equine Science course on Coursera that she will do the next time it is offered. (I know it's an old thread, but these are great new-ish resources!)
klmama
Here is an equine science textbook: http://www.amazon.com/Equine-Science-Cengage-Learning-Hardcover/dp/B00DU82DTU/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1402260186&sr=1-4&keywords=equine+science+parker There are newer editions, but they cost a lot more. Corraleno
For a text, I like Equine Science: Basic Knowledge for Horse People of All Ages. It's short (240 pages), cheap ($20 new), easy to understand, and less technical than some of the other texts. I think it's used in 4H a lot. Also, the Dover Horse Anatomy coloring book is really excellent, and you can't beat the price ($3.59!)
vettechmomof2
Both this and Coursera's Equine Nutrition Course are done very well. Highly recommended and I teach both of these classes to Veterinary Technician Students in college for a reference :) My daughter completed the nutrition course earlier this year and is in the Intro course right now. Really pleased with them! Coursera has a new course offering: The Horse Course - Introduction to Care and Management.
