Lacie
We are going to be taking a trip to St Louis in the summer. I need a list of 'must see' things for my family to do. We will be visiting with another homeschool family. Together there will be 4 adults, a 7 yob, a 5 yob, a 4 yob and a ~6 mob. I would appreciate any help you can provide. So far we are thinking that we need to go to the arch, the zoo, and the children's museum. Ideas please... Edited to add: free or cheap would be awesome, but not required. Country Mouse
The City Museum is a must on our list.
TheReader
The City Museum is a must on our list. Ditto. Most.Fun.Place.Ever. We've been with all ages of children, from baby to teen, and everyone enjoys it, every time. Not cheap, but so so so so SO worth it. As for the Arch, if you go to the top --- it's an open area, with elevators/the little cars that take you up at each end. Next to the entrance to the little cars, are stairs. That are not gated off well. If one of the 3 or 4 yr olds is really curious and active, you might want to skip that part (says the mom who spent the whole time once redirecting the busy 2 yr old AWAY from the stairs!) The rest of your list sounds good.
regentrude
Another vote for the City Museum. Arch is nice and interesting; they have a museum about the westward expansion in the basement, and you can ride to the top. Zoo is free, but you must pay for parking. Science center is free and nice for kids; you must pay extra for Imax shows and planetarium.
Soror
Another vote for the City Museum. I think the Magic House is good for those ages as well. The Botanical Gardens are nice for adults and kids. They have a separate kid's garden which is really awesome with a huge tree house, caves and all kinds of other things. mommaduck
If you get across the river, try Cahokia Mounds. For eating: Old Spaghetti Factory for supper and Ted Drewes for frozen custard.
MrsMommy
Cardinals game! It's a must on my list. Love the zoo, the Magic House, and Grant's Farm. And Cahokia Mounds in Illinois. Faust Park is also pretty cool. Of those things, Grant's Farm is our favorite. After the Cardinals game. ;)
3Blessings
There is so much to do for families in St. Louis! Echoing Grant's Farm (also free, but paid parking). Magic House is awesome, but a bit pricey. Arch is great and the surrounding area is full of other things to do (including a riverboat ride). As someone said before, zoo is free. If you get there when it opens you can get everything free (carousel, children's zoo) as well. No one has mentioned Six Flags, but we actually go there quite a bit, too. Hope you have fun! littlebug42
We don't live in STL but go there every year to for dd8's doctor's appointment. As a word of caution, the City Museum looks awesome but check the admission costs first. We have never made it because it is honestly just too cost prohibitive for us. We love the zoo. There is also a wolf sanctuary and a world bird sanctuary that we plan to check out this year. We will be there on my daughter's birthday this year and she has requested The Magic House children's museum and dinner at Fitz's http://www.fitzsrootbeer.com/. Also, a must visit for us is the Crown Candy Kitchen for ice cream. http://crowncandykitchen.net/
Beth S
Forest Park is filled with free, educational options: Science Museum (park across the highway for free), Art Museum, Zoo, etc. Botanical Gardens are nearby, lots of shopping esp. if you're from a small town! There have been several WTM threads about STL attractions if you want to google that. Of course the city is filled with Cardinal Fever right now, and going to a game next summer would be a fun option!
