Danestress
What do boy wear to Homecoming these days? Would khaki slacks, a white dress shirt and a tie do the trick?
PeacefulChaos
It varies from place to place. It would just depend on what the norm/dress code is there...
Chris in VA
You mean to the dance? Check out the facebook profiles of kids a year older than he is that go to the same school, and see if you can find their homecoming pics. Just a suggestion; not a stalker! Erica in OR
Saw my niece's homecoming photos this week on Facebook (good suggestion, PP). Of the four boys in the photos: 1 khaki, 1 gray slacks, 2 jeans, with three in dress shirts untucked and ties. The fourth was wearing what looked like an athletic warm up jacket. magic
Around here the boys wear jeans and a shirt (varies with t-shirt, polo, plaid, buttondown, etc- always a wide variety). The girls all wear fancy dresses.
Danestress
I think what we are having a hard time with is that these kids have "Chapel Day" on Wednesdays, so they wear khakis, dress shirts, and ties one day a week, and they have to wear the tie, and they have to wear it all day. So they are wearing something every week that would otherwise seem great for Homecoming, but it seems like Homecoming should be a "step up" from that. The girls will wear fancier dresses to homecoming then they would on Wednesdays. But the next step up, I guess, is a dinner jacket. And I hate to think what it would cost me to buy dinner jackets for two boys who will wear them once and then outgrow them.

Reflections
In Florida the girls were wearing tea length fancy dresses and the boys were wearing suits. That was 8 years ago.
astrid
Last year here in Connecticut, Molly's date wore dark dress pants, a white button down shirt and a tie that matched her dress. She said that was pretty much the norm. Not sure about this year-- we ordered her dress tonight but no date yet! ;) astrid Edited October 1, 2012 by astrid just checked a pic and I had the color wrong-- not khakis! magnificent_baby
Just checked friend's group pictures on FB. Out of about 12 guys in the pic, all were wearing dress shirts and ties. The majority wore grey or black dress pants, a few in khakis, and one in jeans. The girls were all in short cocktail dresses. HTH!
Luckymama
The boys at dd's school wear khaki or gray pants with a navy jacket or a suit. These boys wear ties and jackets to school every day November through April (warm weather months they wear polo shirts).
Night Elf
I was wondering the same thing about girls! My dd14 chose a dress that is just beyond fingertip length with her hands down by her sides. The top is like a halter top but the straps are more than 3 fingers wide. Her shoulders will be bare. I was worried she was going to be too dressy with her heels, but I guess not. bettyandbob
Around here the girls dress up more than the boys. My ds wore khakis and a dress shirt both years. I saw the neighbor boy go in jeans and a nice sweater. Girls wear dressy dresses.
Guest Micmoore
My daughter had homecoming over the weekend. The girls wore cocktail type dresses. Most of the boys had on black slacks, black dress shoes, a dark shirt (black, grey or silver) with a tie that matched the girls dress. My daughter wore a black and silver dress and her date wore black pants, a grey shirt with a black and grey tie. They looked great and it made for very nice pictures. MBM
Around here: khakis, a collared shirt and a tie. Maybe you could get your son to wear a bowtie? That's what some of the boys -- not mine -- do to distinguish themselves from Mass days.
