crazyforlatin
Thank you, Hannah! I find that we learn history best with audiobooks. We listened to many of the books under your Ancient Times list. I know DD would love to read about a time traveling cat, but our library doesn't carry this author's books. Do you think it's worth buying the series? Are the books well-written? 5wolfcubs
Puck of Pook's Hill is delightful listening for a taste English history. Puck says "3000 year" but I'm not sure it actually covers quite that much. Well, maybe. It is worth the 6 hours anyway! Fabulous list. We're read or listened to most also. For older ones, Nefertiti by Michelle Moran is really wonderful. Okay, not $500 wonderful, but if your library has it... It is quite cleanly written (considering how adult historical fiction tends to be detailed) and I did let my 9yo listen to it, but it isn't a children's book. Oh, and the sequel has a lot more intimacy described...I didn't let the kids read that.

Julie Smith
Thank you for the great list. I just want to post to mark this thread. You might also like to add: "Thor's Wedding Day" to the list. Great book, and great audio recording. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=thor%27s+wedding+day&sprefix=Thor%27s+Wed%2Caps%2C139

My girls have only listened to the "Time-Travelling Cat and the Roman Eagle" (available at Audible). I was doing other things at the time, so only heard snatches here and there. I'm afraid I can't give you much feedback other than that my 8yo asked me to buy more of the series... and I like the narrator, David Collins. Hannah
Nefertiti[/url] by Michelle Moran is really wonderful. I can see it on Audible.co.uk, but not Audible.com (weird zoning regulations....) and have wishlisted it. Thanks :)
momaof3
This is a great list and I would like to know how do you schedule them into your day. Do they listen while doing another subject or another time? I want to incorporate it into our day but don't know how. Thanks

Thanks We live out of town so spend at least an hour a day travelling to and from activities. We always have an audio book going in the car. The girls also do crafts, build puzzles, play legos, etc. while listening to the books.

EmilyK
Just came back to this great thread. I wanted to mention that there are several Padraic Colum books on Librivox.org. We haven't listened to them yet so I can't comment on the quality of the readers. https://catalog.librivox.org/search.php?title=&author=Padraic+Colum&action=Search

EmilyK
Thanks! Anyone know which ones would be best for a five-year-old studying ancients? If you can get the audio of D'Aulaire's, or Atticus the Storyteller audios, or the Jim Weiss mythology audios -- those were all big hits here at about that age. Halcyon
Thoughts onRed Land, Black Land as an audio? It looks to have a fair number of nice illustrations;wondering how much would be lost by buying the audio version? Also, would this be appropriate for a 10 year old?
