BMW Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 So, we are with parents and well wishers trying to pick out songs to play during the wedding reception and so far... we have two songs. I'd like a selection of the lovey sentimental type songs, but then "they" said that we needed some fun, lively songs, too, and YMCA was suggested :001_huh: Ideas, please? Thanks, Bee Quote

3lilreds in NC Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 How old are you? (Feel free to give an approximation if that's too personal, LOL.) What kind of music do you like? Are you a hair band kinda gal, popular music, 80's music, big band music? Quote
BMW Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 Guess I'm an average 40yo gal, I love sentimental songs of all types - songs from movies, musicals, radio... soft country... Quote
3lilreds in NC Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 So do you want all the songs, fast and slow, to be sentimental? Or just a good mix of slow and fast dancing songs? Quote

JFSinIL Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Folks still talk about doing the Chicken Dance at our reception 20 years ago. We also had Smile (Chaplin) and some Elvis Presley. That is all I recall. Oh, that old song Jump! is good, too. Quote
Susan in TN Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 He has some great lighthearted, nicely done songs - much better than the chicken dance or YMCA(:tongue_smilie:) A couple that come to mind are "She Makes Me Feel Good" and "She's No Lady (She's My Wife)", and (You Can Have My Girl But) "Don't Touch My Hat". Lyle is great for any crowd. You can't go wrong. Quote

I think there is something very wrong with them. :D) Quote
Jenny in Florida Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 In our case, because we're big movie and theatre fans, we chose all of the songs for our reception from soundtracks we loved. The only ones I remember off the top of my head (it was almost 15 year ago) are a couple of songs from "Beauty and the Beast," "The Rainbow Connection," Sally and Jack's duet from the end of "Nightmare Before Christmas" and a couple of selections from the stage musical version of "The Goodbye Girl." Now, obviously, our slightly odd take on this isn't for everybody, but maybe the idea of choosing a theme would help you come up with a list? Quote
Soph the vet Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Whatever happened to "Sunrise, Sunset"? Always makes me cry at a wedding watching the mom dance with her son. Quote
