serendipitous journey
I'm so glad you started this thread, Halcyon! here's our plan; will keep looking at others and modifying, I'm sure. ;) It is amazingly helpful just to write all this out! I'm underlining & italicizing (to separate from the underlined links) things we've done this year, too, so folks can see what's Hopeful Thinking :) (though AO and Artistic Pursuits we started late in the game). Typing: Typing Instructor for Kids Handwriting: Penny Gardner's Italics, Beautiful Handwriting for Children Extra practice with copywork in StartWrite software (ie, his Modern Speller work) [*]Spelling: Modern Speller [*]Writing and Grammar: WWE2, PLL, KISS [*]AO Year 2 [*]Poetry: continue various memorization. Use IEW? Wishes, Lies and Dreams poetry writing. AO poetry. [*]History: AO Year 2, minus the martyrs add in SOTW audiobook with activity guide mapwork & questions Eggleston's American books [*]Math: MUS Zeta, MEP 4A, LoF Decimals, various others [*]Math drill: Calculadder, Singapore's Math Sprints [*]Latin: Prima Latina, maybe Minimus (we've started GSWL) [*]Science: Magic of Reality audiobook/book/ipad version Apologia life sciences (I've used Astronomy) GEMS units: this is my goal!!! wish me luck on these!!! welcome ideas to make them more do-able!!! [*]Art: still refining. Artistic Pursuits? Meet the Masters? plus AO study. [*]Music: also refining. Recorder, maybe lyre; maybe Pfeiffer House; and singing. AO study. [*]Physical fitness: hip-hop dance. aikido, or wait until third. Royal Canadian Air Force 5bx for 7-yo. Edited April 11, 2012 by serendipitous journey adding levels, also noting what we've actually done before.
Marie131
Not planning for 2nd grade but I just had to peak all the same. :D It's not that far away for me. I'm thinking I will be doing LBC Yr1 next year. Which level of Queen's are you planning? Why Queen's over PLL? I'm going to be torn between Queen's, PLL, and CW Primer for 2nd, I just know it. I know! I agonized between all 3 of those and I think I've settled on Queens because it looks the most gentle for my un-workbooky ds. I don't care for the memorization in PLL, I am pretty sure it would be pulling teeth with my ds. I spoke w/ a curriculum consultant who really likes Queens so I thought it would be a good match with my kid. I think we are going to use LLVY1. The full color picture study also appeal to me :)
MandJsMama
This will be helpful for me to write this all out. I've been focusing a lot on my rising 5th grader and just assuming I would do the same as I did with him with my rising 2nd grader. But there was some tweaking. Math - Singapore 2A and 2B and probably into 3A (she's about to start 2A). Either Challenging Word Problems or Intensive Practice Khan Academy for practice Maybe some LOF Grammar - Either Growing with Grammar or KISS Writing - WWE2 Phonics - MCP Plaid B ETC Online (for fun) Spelling - MCP Spelling Workout B Science - AHA! Science with lots of library books History - SOTW 1 with Classical House of Learning Logic - Mind Benders, Balance Benders, Building Thinking Skills 1 Extras - private piano lessons, swim team, art classes at the Art Museum, Mavis Beacon Typing, tagging along with brother on Exploration Education, tagging along for Visual Latin, and maybe watching Singing Times. I think I'll stick with PLL b/c it is working; I've noticed a several posters on the board don't do the memorization (me included) b/c we are doing poetry memorization in other venues; but instead read the poem over and discuss it. That said, full-color picture study sounds nice. I thought I'd heard of a full-color PLL but haven't found one yet ... This will be helpful for me to write this all out. Grammar - Either Growing with Grammar or KISS ... not that you asked :D, but KISS, KISS, KISS!!! that's my vote, anyhow :). (have tried both; and I like a lot of the other things you are using, so thought I'd toss this out ... hope you don't mind) Edited April 11, 2012 by serendipitous journey

(have tried both; and I like a lot of the other things you are using, so thought I'd toss this out ... hope you don't mind) I don't mind at all. Thank you!! My son started with GWG and then switched to EPGY LA, and he'll be finishing year 6. But I don't think he's retained much so I was going to start him with KISS Grade 6 Level 1. It would be great to have them both be at the same level but I'm not sure if I should start her at Grade 3 Level 1 or if that would be too challenging. She hasn't had any grammar instruction. I guess I could also start her at Grade 2 Level 1 but I heard it isn't as complete as Grade 3 Level 1 and I would need to move on to that one, so that means they would only be at the same Level for the first year. I would love your thoughts!!

I would love your thoughts!! I would start with Grade 2, which is really rec'd for 2nd even for the accelerated little ones. It introduces complements gradually, as opposed to all at once. The author suggests breezing through Grade3 Level1 after; the only sections not covered in Grade 2 are 1.7 Punctuation and 1.8 Logic and Vocabulary. :)
