Since I have been researching Autism, I have been reading that lack of pretend play in young children for example, could be a sign of Autism: http://pediatricneurology.com/autism.htm#The%20Skills%20Involved%20in%20Communication Malcolm started around the age of two, but Adrian was not really into it. Can't say that I was one for pretend play either! Anyway, it has been one of my concerns, especially for my boy. Luckily, this has been an area that Malcolm has helped Adrian open up in. I want to use the plays to work on that, without him having the pressure of coming up with his own words. That's my reason behind it ;)! I knew you would be able to convert me :-) Training wheels to play. I like it. I see that it can be a useful tool in certain situations. And at $1.00 and tied into the subject areas planned on being studied, you cannot go wrong. Do you want me to link them for you so you don't have to go through all the pages like I did (yup, I'm that crazy :lol:). You can just check and see which ones work for you. I can just e-mail them to you if you want. I am also making stick puppets to go with the plays. Actually, I am going to use them on our flannel board but they can be used as stick puppets also. I drew Nellie Bly last night as a test and she didn't turn out half bad considering I have not done any kind of people drawings in years :tongue_smilie:. I will share her when she is complete (I still have to color her), with those that are interested and use flannel boards or stick puppets. I did as a child make paper dolls and houses out of cardboard boxes. So paper doll puppets to act out plays is a reachable goal for me. I own two of the grade 4-8 guides (one being The Indian in the Cupboard). I did not get them from Scholastic though! I bought them at our library book sale for 10¢ a peace. I have put them aside to see if we will use them in the future but I can't say that I am that impressed by the content. I don't know if you bought them already or not but have you checked your library for them? They are only a few pages (less than 20) so you would probably be better off trying your library first to see if you like them, and will get some use out of them. In the last year, I've gone from looking down on workbooks to really understanding the value of all different philosophies of homeschooling. My little ones (4 and 2) really want paper products, like worksheets and art projects and little books. My dd9 really needed a variety of multiplication and division stuff to ease her through. I contacted them and not only did they exchange it but they told me if I find any more they will gladly exchange them too :). You're welcome! Actually, someone else mentioned it up thread. I just followed what she did after it happened to me too ;). I gave them the order number for the book I got now and the order number (I had two or three orders in September) from the previous purchase that included the duplicate. They didn't ask for it but I figured with the amount of books I have it would speed up the process. The previous poster saved me from having two doubles :)! I don't think I have any more, I just caught it because of the way I have them organized. I spotted it when I went to put it in the folder, but I am going to go over them again and see if I have any more too. I would love to get notifications on the sales. However, I don't think you missed it really. All the items I have in my wishlist still say $1 and the 30% off coupon code I think is good till the end of the month. Just go to the website and look for the age group you want or whatever category. You need to search through the regular priced items but you will see, the ones that were on sale are at $1 still.
